We arrived in Hagerstown about 9:00 p.m. & it sure was good to see Kevin, Naomi and especially, Orion. Of course, he was a little unsure of us at first & only wanted Daddy or Mommy. As anxious as we were to see & hold him, besides it being so late, we didn't want to push ourselves with him.
May 5, 2012 – In Hagerstown
Unfortunately, Kevin had to work today. He now works 24-hour shifts & there was no way he could get off. We spent some quality time with Orion and Naomi and to the store in the afternoon.
May 6, 2012 – In Hagerstown
Kevin arrived this morning from working at Camp David & we had some time to visit with him. We had a late breakfast and spent a family day at the house. Today is the day for Orion's birthday party at Chuck E Cheese Pizza. We spent almost 3 hours there with games for the kids, plus some for the adults too, pizza, a visit with Chuck E Cheese and cake. Orion seemed to have a good time and enjoyed going up to Chuck E Cheese.
May 7, 2012 –In Hagerstown
In the morning we had Orion as Kevin and Naomi slept in a little. In the afternoon Kevin and Rick drove to an airstrip outside of Baltimore in Ellicott City, MD for Kevin's helicopter lesson. The airstrip was in a farm area and the airfield was grass. Kevin met with his instructor and had his pre-flight briefing. Kevin was going to be in a Robinson R22 helicopter. This is a two-seat helicopter. Following his briefing, Kevin took off for a one-hour flight. Kevin enjoyed the flight and then we headed back to the house. It was nice to spend some father/son time.
Chris, Naomi and Orion spent some quality time visiting and then in the afternoon, went shopping for Orion’s birthday. Orion was so good and it was nice to spend time with him.
We had a nice BBQ steak dinner and shared some pictures of our trip.
May 8, 2012 – In Hagerstown
Today was another day that Kevin had to work. Naomi slept in as well as Orion. We did get some time with him in the morning. Then, we all went to Orion’s 2-year-old doctor appointment. Orion received a good report from the doctor & he is doing quite well. He has a very nice doctor who is very personable. It was nice to be able to meet him. After his doctor appointment, we went out for a quick lunch and then to Wal-Mart.
Naomi and Orion took a nap while Rick worked on some projects for Naomi. Chris returned some emails, made some phone calls and worked on the blog until Orion got up from his nap. We got some more time with Orion!
In the early evening, we took a quick trip to Sam’s Club and some errands for Naomi. Then, we came back to the house for dinner.
May 9, 2012 – In Hagerstown & Going Home to San Mateo
In the morning, we had Orion while Naomi was sleeping and Kevin got home from work a little later than usual. It was fine with us as we got some more time with Orion, especially since we leave tonight. We had a rather quiet day with getting things together and finishing up the final packing.
We some special time giving all of them their gifts from our trip and sharing a little for Mother’s Day. We took some family pictures and fortunately it was not raining yet, so we could go outside. In the later afternoon, it was time to leave for the airport. The drive into Washington, D.C. was not too bad, even though it did rain a good portion of the way. Fortunately, the traffic was ok despite the weather conditions. All went well with returning our car, getting to the terminal and checking in with our entire load of luggage. We had a nice & helpful bus driver and a wonderful ticket agent. The airport was not too busy, so check in and security was a breeze. We had quite a bit of time before our flight, so we enjoyed a local beer while waiting.
