We didn't really have much we wanted to do or see here since we were running short on time before our flight to Singapore, so this was basically just a stop over. Took a couple of walks around the town, but it was so hot we couldn't go far or long. Instead we ended up taking shelter in shopping malls for some air-conditioned comfort. Even caved in and tried out a pizza hut!
The best part of our stay in KK was couchsurfing. We had the opportunity to meet Aizat and her fiancée Nuri (from Melbourne). We had a lovely lunch, took in the museum, went to a 'floating mosque' and went to see a movie (Die Hard - my fav). Then for dinner we made nasi lemak together. So much nicer than others we've had with rice rice, spicy chilies...We talked a lot with Nuri about Melbourne and started to get excited about going to Australia. But we need to put that on hold as we fly to Singapore tomorrow!
3 and a 1/2 months on the road through some crazy countries with even crazier transport systems and not one breakdown. Today broke the record. Our bus from Semporna to KK was supposed to take 9 hours, but instead took 12. From the moment we set out the bus was making frequent stops with guys getting out and pouring water over the engine to cool it. Then we just stopped and didn't go again. Sitting for hours not knowing what was going on. Eventually another bus came along and we transferred over watching Jackie Chan movies while we rolled along. A staff came through handing out barf bags so I knew we were in for a treat. The area around Gunung Kinabalu was non stop twists and turns and we were serenaded by the sounds of heaving behind us, in stereo, for several hours...By the time we arrived at 9pm we were done!
