Try, try again, right? Well, I had tried SCUBA on our first trip but didn't take to it quite as well as Brian. I had a very difficult time equalizing my ears and was actually in a lot of pain while in the water. I was very glad to have gone through the motions and learned about it, but didn't have any desire to do it again.  This was quite sad for Brian as it was something that gave him such great joy that he couldn't share with me. But when he was diving in Koh Chang, we talked some more and I tried something different. All of a sudden I could equalize my ears under water and was ready to try again!

It wasn't without trepidation though. In part of my spirit I wanted to, but I didn't know if I was completely ready in mind and body.

We shopped around at a few dive shops and spoke to some people. Finally there was someone that I felt at ease with and was ready to try again. I did a bit of a refresher course and had to demonstrate my skills under the water, but I was ok!

How amazing it was without pain! Before, the deeper I went the worse I got, but as soon as you equalize, you don't even notice the depth. And without my head imploding I could actually enjoy what was around me and look at the coral and the fish life! Didn't get to see anything too remarkable (no sea turtles or leopard sharks or manta rays), but we did get to see lobster, moray eel, puffers and many other reef fish!  On our second dive we went through a series of caverns called 'the cathedral'. We even surfaced in one and watched the 'dragon's breath' when the air vaporized due to the pressure of the water surging outside. The whole cave filled with a fog-like cloud. At other times in the tide it creates a 'dragon's roar'. Beautiful coral gardens to swim through and much more!My favourite is the Christmas Tree Worm. I may have found a renewed interest! Brian's very happy and I'm so glad that I didn't let him down. Now the only problem is that we didn't budget for TWO of us diving...
