What more fitting way to say goodbye to Scotland than with a ceilidh?

Shortly after moving, we had the pleasure of experiencing a ceilidh for the first time.  A ceilidh is a Scottish gathering involving music and dance.  I found it a great cultural experience.  Unlike the square dancing we learned in school, this dancing is actually used - even with the younger generations.  Most formal gatherings and weddings will include them and many people attend these dances weekly - just for fun!  And fun they are.  I come from a culture where dance is tied in heavily with romantic desires.  Memories of high school dances included slow dances in dark corners, and making-out on the dance floor.  The ceilidh's I've been to are a very different matter.  Energetic dancing in couples or groups include lots of laughter (although the men in kilts are pretty sexy...).

So we had our formal guid-bye nicht oot at the Pollock halls ceilidh with Teannaich playing, who have become our favourite band.  They add a modern rock flare to their music, which we love.

Lots of our good friends were able to attend making it a fun and memorable evening.

How fitting is the Robbie Burns song is:

Should auld acquaintance be forgot,
And never brought to mind?
Should auld acquaintance be forgot,
And auld lang syne?

For auld lang syne, my dear,
   For auld lang syne.
   We'll take a cup o' kindness yet,
   For auld lang syne.

And surely ye'll be your pint-stowp!
And surely I'll be mine!
And we'll take a cup o' kindness yet,
for auld lang syne.

We twa hae run about the braes
And pou'd the gowans fine.
We've wandered mony a weary foot,
Sin' auld lang syne.

We twa hae sported i' the burn,
From morning sun till dine,
But seas between us braid hae roared
Sin' auld lang syne.

And ther's a hand, my trusty friend,
And gie's a hand o' thine;
We'll tak' a right good willie-waught,,
For auld lang syne.
