Like the Israelites fleeing from Egypt we, escaped the oppresion of Syria.  Not that we didn't enjo our time in Syria...but we had some trying times.  With Brian's illness and the problems with the bikes, we were quite restricted and spent much longer than expected - doing nothing!

With only a quick barter with the cabbie, we were speeding south towards the border.  Jordanian visas are no problem to obtain, but customs as an interesting formality.  When driving in, the undercarriage of the vehicle was checked.  Then all baggage had to be removed and inspected while they searched the vehicle - even the rubber door seals were puled off in the officer's search for, we, we're not sure what.

On arrival in Amman, we were dropped off only a short walk from the budget hotels making checking in a breeze.  Highly recommend taking a taxi from Damascus.  Hardly more expensive than the bus, but it gets you there faster, smaller lines at the passport offices, and you don't need to worry about transferring to city busses in the confusing, ever changing, bus stations.

Ate the most amazing falafle of my life, reveled in free WIFI and unrestricted internet access again, and smoked an nargila in a men's only coffee house.

Great day!
