It seems like we’re a little too late for traveling further by bike.  Walking down the street today it was only 6 degrees and raining.  A few more degrees and it will be snow.  Far too cold for cycling and camping (at least by our standards), and not very fun for sight seeing either.  This is winter settling in in northern Italy.

The plan was to cycle south today along the east coast so that I would at least get to cycle and see some countryside and smaller towns.  Not that Venice wasn’t nice in it’s own way, but I really like non-tourist destinations more.

But being too cold we took another train.  Thankfully this time there was only one transfer and we didn’t even have to change platforms!  Slightly warmer temperatures are tempting me to stay and cycle, but the only thing around is the ferry port.  Everything I wanted to see was on the other side of the country or towards the north.  Seems as though as soon as we passed the 5000km mark we haven’t gone anywhere except from ferry ports to train stations.  I really want to see and explore, but I feel I’m fighting a losing battle.  If we do head out, we’re just going to be miserable and not enjoy ourselves.  What’s the point in that?

So I’m officially in mourning now.  We’ve missed so much that I wanted to see in Italy.  I only got a tiny taste for the culture.  I’ve seen almost none of the interesting landscape or met any curious people.  And there’s so many great foods I didn’t get to try!  So tonight we’re going out for a last supper.  I am going to eat pasta in Italy!  I don’t care how stereotypical that is.

All I can say is I hope Greece is a might bit warmer so we can get back on track with this travel.  And I was worried about our travel Visa running out before we were done…If anything I thought that Greece would be rushed after Italy, but it looks like things have reversed.

Well at least I have supper tonight and day tomorrow (that is if Brian doesn’t make us get to the ferry terminal too early).

Ciao Bella Italy!  I wish I could have got to know you better.  Here’s to another return in times of warmer weather.
