Today was mostly a day of running around:  post office, laundry, groceries.  It’s amazing how long such things take when you’re struggling to find them all!  We wanted to get this done so we’d be ready to set out on our bikes again tomorrow.  We could have technically gone today, but stayed the night for one very special reason:  STORYTELLING!

Dillany and Steph knew of a group that gets together once a month to continue the Irish tradition of storytelling.  This is not something taken lightly either.  There are professional storytellers who study and do this for a job.  And I can see why!  They are completely captivating and their stories touch your soul.  Just looking around the crowd at affixed gazes and smiling faces tells you that.  Re-telling legends of old for fables anew with an animated voice and actions.  I’ve always thought that this is something our culture was lacking:  an oral tradition.  It’s so personal to be in a small group sharing stories rather than, say, sitting around watching TV.  It’s set in a relaxed room where everyone sits on pillows on the floor.  Anyone can participate and are encouraged to, but there are a few ‘core’ storytellers who will pick up the silence if the crowd is a bit too shy.  We listened to stories that touched the heart, some that were true, and others made up…history, world culture, personal ~ whatever would be shared.  I recorded a few for you to listen to and get a glimpse of our wonderful evening, but they won't upload.  Hopefully I can get those to you later!
