A true ‘coast to the coast’ today. Finally felt like REAL cyclists. Throughout the day I found myself wondering if this was what cycling was? I had forgotten due to the last several days of pushing and pain. Wind in our hair and km’s rolling out behind us, it was a glorious feeling.
Until Brian got his first flat. Flying down the road and then ‘ssssssssssssssssssssss’. we weren’t expecting this until we got ‘off the beaten track’ a little more. But upon pulling off the tire, it seems like it was a seam failure and not a puncture.
On a beautiful day like this that was not to dampen spirits at all and it was off to Flint Castle
on the shore for lunch. This castle is open for all, so we didn’t need to pay an admission - Hooray! However, because of that, the keepers were busy sweeping up broken glass from eh drinking parties. Regardless, it was in an impressive location and was fun to explore and stretch before we were on our way again.
We have written some tent sites on a may that I found on www.interhike.com. This website has been quite helpful, but our maps quite vague. Every once in awhile we’re guessing.
Today’s guesses took us to the Point of Ayre, an area right on the peak coast of Wales. Weems like this little town is a wannabe Blackpool with amusement rides, piss smelling bars, and plenty of other crap. We cycled up and down that main street looking for a place (our ‘source’ showed 2). Finally I walked into a kiddy amusement park to ask for help. The nicest man gave us very thorough directions that we successfully followed! Found a great chippy up the road and indulged in some disgusting greasy fish and chips. Updates on our weight-loss from cycling to come…
Great cycling day with a tail wind causing us to cruise around 30km/hr!
Today was a beautiful day! Wolk to blue skies without a single cloud in the sky. Now going to bed we still haven’t seen a cloud, and as a result are a little toasty (despite sunscreen).
