We went through the bulk of our supplies before we moved from Calgary since everything is going into storage, we needed access to our camping/cycling gear so it was important that it not go with the other things. Now it's all laying on the floor of Brian's parent's garage and the time to deal with it can no longer be delayed.
Firstly, we bought some UV spray for our gear. Since we will be using the tent much more than we usually do, we wanted to make sure that it lasts as long as possible. Also our pannier, being exposed to the sun all day every day, should be protected as well for they are the most vulnerable
Many people are wondering what kind of gear you pack for a journey such as ours, so I'll try to go through it all. Since there are 2 of us, we are able to split the bulk of the big items as we are sharing. This is basically what we have:
-2 rear panniers/bike
-2 handlebar bags
-2 lg duffles (for loading gear onto the plane)
-water bottles/locks/lights for bikes
-tent, 2 sleeping pads and sleeping bags
-2 small camp towels
-stove and pot set with dishes (coffee press most important) and water bag
-1 waterproof bag of clothing each (couple pr of socks and underwear, a few shirts/pants, fleece jacket, and down vest)
-rain gear (jacket and pants)
-1pr sandals and 1 pr shoes/hikers for each of us
-some food to get us started (energy bars, oatmeal, instant soup, dehydrated dinners)
-first aid kit/sewing kit
-some personal hygiene items and a little medication
-misc stuff sacks for all
-some creature-comforts: camera/laptop/guidebook/journal/pipe/photos
After loading everything up it was time to take the bikes for a little spin
A few things we still need to do are: get some local currency, copy our documents and give copies to family, email ourselves other important things and we should be good to go!
