Siem Reap
We took it easy the first two days in Siem Reap and celebrated Jack's birthday. Well, the other way round - we celebrated Jack's birthday and took it easy the day after...
But then we had done enough faffing around and it was time to do some serious business, to see the main event, the pride of Cambodia - the temples of Angkor Wat.
We bought a 3-day pass for 40$ each and decided that on our first day we would cycle to the Rulous group, the oldest of the temples, dating back to 859AD.
Anyway, the temples are about 15km away and people in our hostel were surprised we had planned to cycle "that far". They adviced us take a tuk-tuk instead. Tuk-tuk? No. We don't need that! It's only 15km, my grandma can do that in her sleep. They just want our money.
That's what we thought. Turned out, we were wrong. Turned out that the 15km on the way back in 40C, after already being exposed to the burning sun for 3 hours while exercising was not a piece of cake! It was in fact pretty horrible. There was no shade on the way and the crazy traffic didn't make things easier.
We stopped twice at some dodgy, deserted stands on the road to get a drink and some shelter from the sun. The first stop was only a brief one for two reasons:
1. We found out that cockroaches are NOT only out at night.
2. The eggs that people were having for lunch actually had embryos in them, with feathers and bloody veins!
It took us two hours to get back in the end, but we made it. Now we can only advice everyone who wants to go see the Rulous group: Go because they are amazing, but refrain from going by bike if it is desert hot.
Today we are going to brave it again, only 8km though...

P.S. Pictures will follow at a later time because there is no computer around.

Wow! You guys are hardcore with the biking! We thought we were going to do that until we got to our hostel ... and then we let ourselves be talked into a three day tuktuk tour. Very comfortable!

Sounds like you're still in good spirits though! :)
