It was so sad to leave the Gilis, I had really fallen in love with them. It was just soooo beautiful and chilled out and the local people were so nice. They were always up for some small talk on the street - with genuine interest not because they tried to sell you something or chat you up.
Also our diving experiences were always absolutely amazing. In only four dives we saw at least ten turtles, an octopus, a poisonous stone fish and millions of beautiful colorful fish and coral. The highlight was on our third dive when a big purple jellyfish was turned upside down floating at about 12 meters under the surface and two huge turtles dining on it's edges. We came so close to the big gentle reptiles that we could have touched them when stretching out an arm. The current under water was quite strong at that time so we had to struggle against it in order not to get pulled into the turtles' dinner.
I could have just spent the rest of my life there, but everything comes to an end at one point. We were back on the boat to Bali. A night at the airport. A flight to Kuala Lumpur. More time at the airport. Another flight to Langkawi, Malaysia. That was the day before yesterday.
But there wasn't much time to dwell on leaving the Gilis, we met up with Mollie (Jack's mum) and Ken (her husband) who had booked us into a luxurious 5star resort in the rainforest. When we arrived they told us at the reception to not leave the windows open, otherwise monkeys would come in and steal from our mini bar. There are monkeys everywhere! When we chill out on the balcony they jump around in the trees right next to us.
Otherwise Langkawi Island seems to take it's reputation of a rainforest quite literally, it pours down with rain every day and night. That is the time then when we relax under the shelter with a GnT, the sunny intervals we sit by the pool and work on our tan :)
