We are back in civilization. Just arrived in Wuhan after our three day "cruise" trip down the Three Gorges. I have to put "cruise" in inverted commas so that no one gets the wrong end of the stick. Usually a cruise is associated with elegant evening entertainment, five star buffets, swimming pools on the sun deck and expensive chandeliers - our boat offered pretty much the complete opposite. Dirty bedsheets and dirty everything, only freezing water and no heating. And we are talking about first class here - the only difference to the other classes was that it included only two beds. But I'm not complaining. We still had a great time. Every minute we spent in our room we squeezed together into one of the small beds. So we could warm each other and use two duvets - it prevented us from turning into ice cubes. It was freezing cold.
Foodwise we pretty much lived of peanut butter and jam sandwiches and instant noodles. Our romantic three year anniversary dinner consisted of four bottles of beer and some cookies :)
Every now and then our cruise stopped and we changed into smaller boats to see more of the Three Gorges. They are absolutely stunning, even though people say it is nothing compared to how it looked before the big dam was built. Now the Gorges are flooded and the mountains are much smaller. We enjoyed the scenery and were glad to finally see the country side and get out of the big cities.
Something I am still struggling to get used to is that people constantly take pictures of us. I am okay now with people starring at us or asking us to be in a picture with them but if someone just randomly aims their camera at us to take a photo while we eat or blow our nose... It feels like being an animal in a zoo.
Today finally the sun has come out and the temperature is nice, it feels like springtime. Soon we can leave our jackets behind because from now on we go further and further south. Sunshine here we come!
