We have been hanging out in cohchabamba - city of eternal spring - for the past couple of weeks and expect to be here for a couple more before moving on south. the weather is generally good here though and we´ve been enjoying the vast selection of (chicken and chips) restaurants.

we worked for a few days with a drop-in centre for kids whose parents are in prison called CAICC. we learned that they have to live in the prison and there is no space so this place was put together to give them somewhere to play and do their home work and, well, be kids. for those three days we became human jungle gyms for ages 6 to 12

we would have stayed  longer except we managed to land a job working with habitat for humanity which is a volunteer organization which provides micro-loans and expertise to provide homes for those who otherwise could not afford them lindseyland
lindseyland
. so for the past 2 weeks we have been smashing rocks, carrying bricks, digging holes and otherwise helping to build homes up on a hillside overlooking the city. the 2 houses belong to don francisco and the other his son, felix. D.F. is 57 years old and can carry and THROW a 120kg boulder like it was a bag of puffed wheat, and knows exactly where to hit it with his sledge hammer to reveal it´s hidden flaws. he is  the bravest man i know having actually held a chisel while lindset heaved a heavy hammer at it with force! (she didn´t hit him once)

last weekend we vistied the nearby jungle town of villa tunari where we had the opportunity to eat at COMPLETELY different chicken and chips restaurants and play with 3 different kinds of monkeys. lindsey became a ´monkey bus´ ferring the critters up and down the path, and simon had a little capuchin curl up and fall asleep on his lap.

we loved it

but not enough to spend a month volunteering there one on one with the animals.
