"Umberto! Umberto!"
Morning, noon and night, this cry is heard at our current residence. Umberto is the long suffering live-in maid at this hostel-cum-home-cum-madhouse in Panama city. Ivonne is our landlady/roommate. And she rules with an iron fist.....
There are 7 of us here not counting the 2 Columbians who escaped last week. We are an eclectic bunch....a Nicaraguan diplomat, a German vegetarian chef and his researcher girlfriend, there is a venezuelan beach volleyball champion slumming it in Miami and Frank, our resident hippy who is having a mid life crisis! Its an interesting time but we are gradually going STIR CRAZY!
And although we have 'sold' Betsy to a chap called Jorge, she is still with us, awaiting her final importation paperwork to go through....which is already a week overdue......and we can't leave Panama till its all done
So we have been sightseeing a bit as well as kicking our heels. This week we saw Panama Viejo - the site of the original city back in the early 1500s before it was sacked by pirates..its mainly ruins now but a pleasant walk. Also we went to Miraflores locks to see the Canal in action. We were lucky to see 2 massive liners go through just as we arrived. And we took Betsy for a last drive along the canal, admiring the jungle and listening to Bob Dylan (...yes we know its a cliche but we don't care!...)
Next instalment....do we have a departure date?

Apparently Maersk doesn't use the canal!
