Though I was happy to only have 40 miles to do today having done 30m more yesterday than planned due to the helpful wind, I felt spent and so it still seemed a long way. My legs were very tired and I felt tired too. Looking at the mirror I had big dark black lines under my eyes which didn't seem to represent the 11-12 hours of sleep I have been having each and every night. However, it was only 40m so I jumped on my bike at 6.30am  having taken a couple of multivitamins to try and offset the last few days travails and set off, in the knowledge that it is best to get these ordeals over quickly!

The ride was reasonably easy and I arrived in Spokane, the largest town I have stopped in so far. My first visit was to a bike shop where I needed to adjust the angle of my saddle as the tip has been a little high, and I don't think I need to go into details of the issues that causes.  I also had to get a spare clip for my cycling shoes because mine had become loose. These things took 5 minutes, but then I asked if they knew of any watch shops because my watch/heart rate monitor was signalling it was running out of battery. Fortunately for me, the bike shop owner thought of himself as a crack with any bit of machinery or electrics so he said he would change it over in seconds. An hour later and with the prospect of my watch which had fallen into about 8 bits when undone, not working, I was able to leave with the watch working and intactl - so far! And all of this for only $5! I think he felt guilty about keeping me but I had nowhere to go but even so it was another example of the kindness and generosity of America.

Checked into a hotel in the middle of town and went for a long walk around town and discovered the most incredible waterfall in the centre of town which has a ski lift ride over the falls which I could not pass up. It is was an extraoredinary site to see such a massive waterfall in the middle of the town and yet not have been aware of it 100m away given it is hidden behind buildings.

I had a lovely dinner in town and again was in bed by 8.30...... one big party!
