Today is a semi down day. We did laundry this morning, and Jim got a much needed haircut. We then headed to Fort Edmonton Park. This is the largest of Canada's living history parks. It depicts Canada in four historical eras: the fur trade of the mid 1800s, 1885, 1905, and 1920. We have seen several of the fur trade "forts" this summer and last. This one was larger and seemed more complete. The park had a special Scottish theme day going on. The Pipe and Drum Band competition was being held in the courtyard of the fort. 1885 Street contained many homes and businesses relocated from other parts of Edmonton. We particularly enjoyed many of the antique stoves and oil lamps. At one of the homes we sampled haggis, made especially for the Scottish theme day. The haggis was quite tangy, but otherwise similar to chopped chicken liver. On 1920 Street there were highland games competitions. We watched several attempts at throwing the caber. We took advantage of the opportunity to ride a streetcar, something that neither of us had done since childhood. It was an enjoyable afternoon.
