Hi all
Well how do I start to descibe today's trip. The highest mountain in Austria is the Gross Glockner and running over the mountain is a pass that is described by many as the best bike road in Europe.
Well we left with Heinz & Irene leading the way on their bikes through some fantastic roads to the Austrian border where we stopped for fuel in Austria, its 50cents a litre cheaper than Germany!
On to Bruck then the Gross Glockner, we paid our toll ( 15 Euros) and entered the national park climbing all the time and getting a bit colder as we went along, then we saw snow and it was getting colder.
The road is just nervana for bikes and every where more and more bikes, over 48km long with 36 hairpin bends and lots and lots of twists and turns bloody fantastic!!!!!!!!!
As we climbed we we surrounded by snow, luckly it was very clear and sunny so the ice was away.
At the top 3800 metres above sea level we stopped for coffee and cake ( what else) it was so warm we took our jackets off even though the snow was about half a metre deep!
What a fantastic area with bikes from all over, a few cars and the tour buses but they were easily passed. it was great to ride the bike without luggage, we found out that our repair to the brakes is ok, bit of a relief when you are headimng towards a hairpin at 120kmh plus.
We drove back though some fantastic roads and through a mountain for over 5km deep toll tunnel.
It was back to Heinz & Irenes after over 400km .....just great.
