When I flew into Cusco, I was a bit shocked going from sea level to 3360m above in an hour and a half. I recovered pretty quickly after getting some coca leaves and tea and luckily didn't get any more altitude sickness.

The hostel I stayed in was called Wild Rover and it is just like how it's said in its name 'wild'. The first night I was just in patio area on my computer resting when I heard 'happy hour' being yelled from the bar area then 2 girls came out with bottles of spirits to the patio saying 'free shots' then started pouring shots down your throat. From then I thought this is going to be a crazy hostel. It had a great bar area, similar to Gillian's in Cairns, Australia. I had a few good nights there and ending up in town clubbing. I got to play a game of soccer for Wild Rover against a rival hostel. It was so hard playing at 3360m up, I was out of breath in about 5 minutes. I felt like the most unfit person but everyone else was the same, just subbing players every 10 minutes. It was good fun but we lost 10-9.

The next day I took a tour to the sacred valley which took me to the ancient ruins of Pisaq, Tipon and Pikillaqta from Inca and pre Inca times. It was a great insight on how the ancient communities lived and constructed these buildings that withstood hundreds of years. A good start before taking the Inca trail. Also on that tour I visited a llama farm and had guinea pig for lunch . Tastes kind of like a mixture of pork and duck.

My others days in Cusco I spent exploring the city. It had some beautiful cathedrals and monuments of famous Inca's. It was a great little city full of other travelers and friendly locals that loved to party. I tried a lot of local food and found a great burger joint that sold the best pork rolls with special Andes sauce and spices.
