Lima was a great city for me to just chill out during the day with some beach and site seeing and enjoying some local Peruvian food. I stayed in the Miraflores suburb in the middle of Lima which had everything I needed, good food, good bars and close to tourist sites.

My 2nd day there, I went to the downtown area of Lima to see the great old buildings from the 15th century. I saw government house where the president lives. There was a changing of the guards ceremony when I was there which was pretty cool. I also saw the cathedral and the old San Francisco church. The church had catacombs under it that I got to walk, through which held the bodies and bones of thousands of past upper class Peruvians and priests from hundreds of years. Pretty creepy walking through the little tunnels. When I came out there was a big protest outside the government house, the police had fenced off the area and got the riot squad and water cannons out. It was starting to get a big sketchy in that area so I bailed. That night I went on a piscine sour tour (a local alcoholic drink) to bars where it supposedly was invented. It kind of tastes like a margarita, pretty strong. Then we just went to local bars till late in the night.

The next day I visited the Huaca Pucllana ruins. They are right in the middle of Lima, surrounded by buildings. They are said to have been built around 200AD but weren't discovered till the 80's when more buildings were going to be built on that site. It is a little pyramid spread over a huge area, pretty interesting site.
That afternoon I went surfing at lima's beach. I took out a mini maibu and had real clean consistent waves all afternoon. Really fun with locals.
That night I went to see the fountains in downtown park. There were so many different fountains all lit up in different colours. Even a fountain maze you could walk through. Pretty amazing way to end the day.

The next day I flew to Cusco to get ready for Machu Picchu inca trek.
