First few days in Rio de Janeiro we have been busy site seeing and trying the local food. We have to get around the city in the most rickety buses you can think of, the whole time thinking this is gonna fall to bits soon, but flying and swerving through the traffic is fun. We went to copacabana beach which was nice, plenty of people, nice water and volley ball and soccer games going on all along the beach. There were plenty of food and beer stalls along the beach too.

We then wandered around the city looking at the buildings seeing how old and dirty looking they all are but its good to see how different it is to back home in Australia.

Friday we went up to the top of the mountain overlooking the city to see the Christ the Redeemer statue. Its an amazing site to see the size of this massive (38m) statue and the view it has over the whole city. One of the greatest things I've ever seen.

We then headed up to Sugar loaf mountain which took two gondola trips to get there. This is also another awesome view over the city and its beaches.

The whole city is getting all hyped up for carnival with already massive street parties or blocca's as they call them, going on in the street. The one we are going to tonight is blocking off 10 main streets to fit everyone in. Everyone dresses up and gets drunk in the streets, pretty much like a music festival. So much fun!
