We leave in 1 day – hard to believe. We've been "getting ready" for so long that our trip doesn’t seem too real right now. It’s amazing how many more little details there are in preparing for a 6 week trip vs. a 3 week trip ... and a final decision must be made for those 'little’ trip dilemmas – Do we make hotel reservations for that one night stop-over since it’s high tourist season and the popular hotels are usually booked, or do we wing it, find a hotel when we arrive – if we arrive that day. By most accounts, bus schedules in Central America change frequently. I’ve opted for a mix, some reservations & some “Oh gosh, I sure hope we get into town before dark & can find a hotel” winging-it. This is an adventure after all. We’ve actually been packed (mostly) for 2 weeks now. Three suitcases total, 2 carry-on suitcases (one dedicated to snorkeling gear) & one case just over the carry-on limit. I think we may have mastered the art of packing light. Of course, I still have 3 pair of shoes and twice the changes of clothes that Troy does, but that’s only because I care so much about him. My extra clothes will be the padding to protect his tequila bottles on the way home!

We finalized our packing over the week-end, then I headed back to work for 2 final days. Since our flight leaves at 11:45pm Tuesday night and my day starts at 3am, it’s going to be a looooonnnngggg day. I’ll grab a couple hour nap as soon as I get home, then Troy & I will have a couple hours to relax before our friends Erika & Rod pick us up to head to the airport. We planned to break our diets tomorrow evening, but we kinda sorta got a head start & ate today. Although neither of us made our weight loss goal our diet was still a success. Even so, I’m very thankful that swim suits are made of stretchy material! Who knows though, I still have 0.5 days that I could diet. I could lose that last 10# in 0.5 days, yeah -then I’ll turn our water into wine & part the water of our pond too…

We’ll be posting an account of our adventures on & off throughout our trip for 2 purposes.

# 1 – it’s an easy way keep a record of our trip. We’ve already forgotten many of the interesting things we saw on last years trip.

#2 - to let family & friends know how much fun we’re having & they’re not. OK, not really. It gives us the opportunity to stay in touch with everyone interested in our activities without having to hassle with difficult international land lines or expensive cell phone roaming charges. We have enabled the “read the blog or else” option however, so I suggest that once you open an entry you finish it…. or else!  We are not expecting to make daily entries and may even decide to forgo such a formal trip account. We’ll see.

OK, end of our introductory trip report.  See you all in 6 weeks!!!!
