I never thought that visiting the high school that Jimmy Carter once attended would be an adventure, informing, or even realistic. Before this trip, I really didn’t know who Jimmy Carter was, let alone where he went to high school! I do think I am learning more and more each and every day. When I see the classrooms that I know he sat in, I can almost see him sitting at a desk scribbling down notes and following closely to his teacher’s words. I can see him having triumphs and struggles, just like everyone else. I can see Jimmy Carter as a teenager. You know, way back in the forties.
When we walk along the hallways of Plains High School we can imagine the education that Jimmy Carter received to turn him into the president who cared enough for education to create it’s own department
The Department of Education provides some fundamental support and federal assistance for those employed in education and students as well. The Department may enforce laws involving privacy and civil rights in schools. The Department of Education, however, does not establish schools.
Education is a hot topic in politics right now - where does our funding go? Are our standards outdated, are they still relevant? Currently, these are the things presidential candidates may be worrying about. What do we, as young citizens of the United States, believe? This is the question that the future president should be asking. The way that a young mind who is still in school or has recently graduated focuses on education may be slightly different from that of a middle-aged man. My advice to the candidates is to gather the opinions of the young folks. Ask questions, and get answers. If you take into account the ideas and thoughts of the incoming generation, you will be successful.
