I take some of that back
Entry 27 of 29 | show all | print this entry |
OK, maybe I was a little hasty, but I am still sick, which sucks. And its been raining buckets since last night. I screwed up and booked the motorcycle for three days when I'm actually here for four, so I had to drive the thing back to the pier (15 miles) today while it was pouring. Really, white knuckle driving, especially on the hairpin turns when it simply does not feel like it is possible that the bike will stay on the road. But it did. The problem, then, is that I then had to take a songtheow (pick-up truck without the back gate) back to the beach on the same damn road. Riding in the back of a pick up truck on that road might have been worse than driving a motorcycle on it. And I have to do that again tomorrow when I leave. I have decided to make a brief one day stopover in Pattaya in honor of Shane MacGowan and Singha beer on my way to Bangkok. Plus, it sounds. . . interesting to say the least, and I've taken it easy for three days, which is far too long.
Anyway, I found a lady who sells green papaya salad for twenty baht near my beach, so all is not lost in the way of Thai food. Still can't get a Thai Iced Tea to save my life, and Singha is pretty expensive here (almost two bucks a bottle). The bar has been closed the last two nights at my place, which sucks, but its open tonight evidently for a "party." I am wondering what that is going to entail, but I do think its going to involve drinking the local favorite--which is a mixture of Mekong Whiskey (which, by the way it turns out, is just rum), coke, and Red Bull. Red Bull is originally Thai, but here it is an uncarbonated, syrupy, elixir. Be interesting to see if I have an asthmatic attack, destroy a bathroom, or both. So far, the other travelers at my resort have been lame, so that might be the best thing I can hope for.
As I write this there is a little calico cat playing with a the ring from a milk bottle beneath my feet--same thing everywhere in the world, cats love those plastic rings.
