Year 2, Days 7/1-7/10/14 - Today we drove to Wells ME for 10 days.  We got in touch with old friends who now live in York, ME, Bob and Carolyn Morahan, and Andrea and the kids joined us for 4 days.  I was surprised that the area was not that crowded, but then I was told that the 3rd week of July through August is their busy time.  So, good for us. You've heard "if you don't like the weather, wait 5 minutes" - well - seems to be true.  We had sun, rain, fog, mist and some of it all in the same day.  Nick and I got our share of Fried Clams and Lobster Rolls (well, let's be honest, you can never get your fill)!!

Bob and Carolyn gave us a great driven tour of York, Wells, Ogunquit and Kennibunk and Kennibunkport!  The homes, the ocean beaches(all of them freezing, used to be you couldn't keep me out of the water no matter how cold...well that ship has sailed!), the quaint towns, all lovely.  We saw St. Anne's Church in Kennybunk on the water, the President's Summer Home, Cape Neddick Lighthouse,  and many other sites as well.

I came by my love of Lighthouses (let's not talk about Barns) honestly.  Back in the late '40's into the early '60's my dad was the Pilot for a New England Author by the name of Edward Rowe Snow.  He wrote mysteries of New England.  Every December, my dad would fly Snow, (who would dress up as Santa, and later became known as the Flying Santa) over the manned lighthouses from Maine to New Jersey dropping little Christmas packages to the Lighthouse keepers.  It became quite the tradition for the two of them.  Snow would then give my dad an autographed copy of the latest book.  I actually have all of those and one of these days I will get around to reading them.

Enjoy this area of Maine....next Boothbay Harbor....

Oh, to be in Maine in the summah... While we're sweating it out down South y'all are enjoying time in one of my favorite states. And exactly how is it that I never knew about your Dad flying Santa? I'm well familiar with the story, but didn't know of the connection. Small world!

Someday I will make it that far north (maybe). I love the story about your Dad and Snow. What a wonderful family memory. You had better hang onto those books, what a treasure to have them all.
After returning from the NW last week, I realize how nice it would be to spend our summers in the cooler states. It really is nice to awake in the morning to sun and 55 degrees! Nice :)
