On the 14th we went to the home of my cousin and her husband, Shady and Bruce.  We hadn't seen each other in a long time, but we quickly started up where we left off. Family is always so great to be with.  Thanks Shade and Bruce for a fantastic dinner, conversation, breakfast and such fun in between.

On the 15th we were headed to the Luke Air Force Base Thunderbird's Show.  And, a show it was!  Although I could do a full blog on just getting there.  The traffic was horrendous and the traffic management was even worse.  We got to the site with no problem.  The line to get to the park and bus took us over an hour and the line to get on those busses took another two hours!!!  Really, people was this the first time you had this show here, I think not!!  We left at 9:00 a.m., had a 30 minute ride and the rest was wait time.  We watched part of the show with well over 1,000 people as we wound our way up and down the field as we made our way to the security point and then on to the school busses.  We actually got on the base at 12:30!  Yikes.

The Thunderbirds started at 3:00, so we had a few other flyers, military jets racing back and forth, daredevil pilots pushing the limits of their aircraft to the amazement of the 30,000 people watching, before the big boys took to the air.  It was hotter than...well you can guess.  Sitting on the tarmac just makes it worse.  We would allowed to bring in chairs, one bottle of water, a camera and that was about it.

During the earlier part of the day, the wind was not a factor, but the minute 3:00 came a wind storm came up and the flags were out straight and the dust was covering the runway.  Oh great!

They waited a half hour and just as soon as the wind came up, it stopped abruptly and we had a great display of precision flying.  It turned out to be a great day.

Enjoy the show!

Wish we had been there! I'll never forget the Thunderbird's flyover at Scott's graduation! I still get goose bumps just writing about it!

Great photos Sandy. Love the paint jobs on some of the aircraft. Looks like a fun time in spite of weather and crowds.
