Christmas was great with our son's family. It's so much fun with the little ones! We did our own version of Elf on the Shelf and the boys loved it. Every day there was a note from the Elf and a new location and they had lots of fun finding him. I had found an AnnaLee Elf, which was much bigger than the usual Elf, so it made it a bit harder to hide him, but since the kids are little, it worked great.
We flew in to Newark on the 17th and there was a storm coming to the Newark area with measurable snow, so we had an hour and a half delay leaving Vegas and on our return trip we were one day ahead of the massive storm bearing down on the East Coast, so we were hoping to "get out of Dodge" before the mess began
We did make in to the City one day. It was pretty cold, but we managed to get around the city pretty well. Saw the new tallest building and the barriers around the site of 911 - lots of construction still going on and lots of police presence in that area - it was 12/30/13...we saw where the ball drops in Time Square, the Statue of Liberty from a distance and tun walked over to the WTC site. You have to pre-arrange tickets to be able to take a tour and we just figured we would come back in the warmer weather sometime to see it. Still you get chills just walking by there. At the fire station they had a Christmas tree with photos of all the firefighters lost that day. If that doesn't reduce you to tears...!!
Now that we are here in Vegas we have hooked up with 6 couples that were on our Alaskan Trip and we are all having fun rehashing the trip. Our Wagon Masters have had us for dinner and we have been to dinner and brunch together and last night we all went to a comedy show that was pretty neat. Sharon and George Maher are staying next to us in our campground and we have seen Jersey Boys and tomorrow we go to Menopause the Musical
If you ever come here to Vegas and you will be here for awhile you can hook up with this radio show that has phenomenal discounts on lots of shows and restaurants. Not the headliners, but enough that you can have a great time seeing lots of shows for pennies on the dollar. It is KSHP, AM 1400. I won some radio bucks and the $33.00 for a pair of tickets was free and I "bought" 4 tickets. Sweet!
We will leave here on Friday and go down the road to Boulder City and stay a couple of nights to see some new friends we have met and then we will make our way down to Lake Havasu for the Balloon Rally!
