Where I stayed

Well, we have made the trek from Pasho, SD here to the Badlands National Park.  Amazing isn't really the right word to describe this place.  Awe inspiring.  The colors of the rock formations, the shapes.  At every turn you see something different.  Ready for my 400 pictures?  And, it's only day one.  I didn't even want to look at all that I took.

After our setting up our campsite we headed off for the Scenic Loop and that took us to Wall Drug Store.  In business in the town of Wall since 1931.  As you will see on the first part of this photo journal, the ride was like seeing the "South of the Border" signs in the South.  It was reminiscent of the Burma Shave signs of long ago.

While in Wall we walked through the drug store (rather disappointing, but many buildings make up this complex - a definite tourist trap to be sure), and then decided that across the street they were advertising Buffalo burgers in this little bar, so we thought we should try something local (I have had buffalo many times, so not really anything new to me) and we went in.  Little did we know that they were tiny frozen patties and I felt like we were eating at a McDonald's...too bad.

We got back to our site in the late afternoon and checked the weather.  It looked like we might get a storm and we just waited for it to appear.  At 9:00 p.m. they were having a Ranger talk at the amphitheater and we thought about going to that, but sure enough the rain and the distant thunder started at 10 minutes to 9 and that was the end of that.  No storm really, just some distant thunder and a nice steady rain.

Another beautiful day today, so we will be off to explore more of the region today.  There is a small town called "Interior" and we may check that out today.  Luckily we have internet here at the gift shop (clever) and I am taking full advantage of that.

More deer as road kill - I've had my fill...what to do now?

Enjoy the beautiful badlands with us.

Photos! Amazing! You make me want to follow your route, minus the storms, when we head out to Vegas this Fall in Dream Catcher!

I know it was a little town, but it's Presho, not Pasho. Also, don't forget to drive Needles Hwy for more scenic formations. When you get to Rapid City, go to the Native American Indian Museum and a store called The Praire's Edge. Have fun and stay safe!
