You know you are either on vacation or retired when you aren't sure of the day of the week or the date!!

June 11th - We left Custer and Heather behind and we brought the 2 boys with us for another week.  Our destination took us through the western end of South Dakota and into Wyoming.  We stopped at the most amazing Visitor's Center I have ever seen.  They really went the distance on this one, as you will see.

We arrived at Devils Tower in the afternoon and are at the foot of this strange looking rock formation.

June 12th - Today we toured the Visitor's Center at the base of the Tower and then went to a program on birds (Lars is earning his 2nd Jr. Naturalist designation) and then off for a 1.3 mile "hike" around the base of this tower.  It took us over 2 hours to complete as there is so much to see and read along the way, and some long vistas to view as well as looking at the tower climbers on this shear faced rock!  The Indians consider the Devils Tower to be sacred and they ask that in the month of June no one climb the tower, but we counted at least 5 people up there.  There is another tradition where they hang prayer bundles and other things from the trees and these are also not to be disturbed.

June 13th - Today we took the loop around to Sundance.  This town was quite a disappointment. There is literally nothing there and what they do for the Sundance Festival is beyond me.  We didn't even see a theater.  The only good thing was the museum.  It was quite extensive, free, and full of memorabelia on the Sundance Kid.

We have decided to stay here for the remainder of the time (4 days) before we need to be in Gillette about 60 miles from here for the FMCA Rally.  We will leave here on Sunday and make our way down to Cheyenne, WY where we will meet Heather and exchange the kids for our two bikes that Heather took home..."I" will miss the grandchildren!!!!!

Isn't it great to not know what day of the week it is? It's so fun reading your journal as I have been so many of the places you are going now - memory lane for me!

Memories!!!! You will be entertained by the stories of this trip as you sit in your rocker 20 years from now with the grandkids retelling their trip in the Coach!!

Sandy,

Really enjoying the trip updates, very informative. I especially like yesterday's post as I am a 'Close Encounters......' nut and cannot get enough Devils Tower pictures, very cool!

Thanks!
