Our first stop was to the fossil talk up on the Badlands Loop. It was very interesting and also fascinating that they are finding new fossils all the time. They even have a room where folks are working to clean them up and you can go in and watch. They are learning all kinds of things about what used to live here many millions and millions of years ago. The lower rocks are the oldest and the ones at the top the newest. The older rocks were on the bottom of the ocean way back when (slightly before my time). He had several fossils to show us from the ocean bottom and on up. He even had a full alligator skull...hard to believe that this was once a tropical place!
After our talk, we headed up to the area where you can see the buffalo
I feel like I'm in the middle of a sand sculpture competition as I view these hills. Some of the tops look like you put sand in your water bucket and then dripped the wet sand on the top of the turrets that you had made on your castle (those of you at Disney know that we ONLY make sea creatures into sand sculptures)!!!!
We did take a couple of the trails today (the easy ones) and the scenery is still breathtaking. Tomorrow is the last day here and then off to Custer State Park where we will meet up with Heather and Lars and Trent for 9 days. Hopefully we will have great weather.
Dinner tonight was ice cream! Love it!!! No cooking for me tonight...
