Well, here we are in Springfield, IL -  the Home of Lincoln.  Unfortunately, Lincoln only operates his Library Monday thru Friday and that was pretty much the purpose of this visit...there is a lot to see here in regards to Lincoln, so maybe when we go into Springfield tomorrow, we can get our fill.  We didn't get ourselves all hooked up until about 3:30, so it wouldn't be worth trying to rush into Springfield for only an hour or so.  I did already meet "Abe" as luck would have it, (not the real one - darn!!) at the Welcome Center and he was a wealth of knowledge.  But even with my "in" that damned Library is still closed on the weekends!

Today it was raining on and off on our ride up.  Lots of flat farming land with big farms and lots of land around for planting.  Unfortunately, due to the amount of rain that they have had, the fields are full of standing water or just drenched.  You can tell that they have already planted, so get ready for high food prices coming our way.

We drove a little bit on Route 66!  So how cool are we?  Hello James Dean!!!

Not much in the way of road kill - one fox and one possum...hmmm, hmmm, good - better even than I think Campbell's Soup.  It has become my experience (with my road kill),that if you marinate ANY cut of meat, it can only improve the flavor and cooking the hell out of it doesn't hurt either, and since I have been in Kentucky I know all about Jack Daniels BBQ sauce - tho I have decided to forgo the sauce part and just put in straight Jack Daniels (Roby you would be proud of me) as my marinade. I figure that that will kill any unpleasant taste and by the time we are done breathing in the cooking aromas (of the Jack not the road kill) we will be three sheets to the wind anyway and ANYTHING would taste good at that point!  That's my theory and I'm sticking to it. Anyone out there want to test my theory (must use road kill, no cheating with the Jack Daniels)!!

On the road I saw many sheep, cows, 2 llamas (that's right, I hadn't been in the Jack when I saw them) and one hawk.  Too bad those sheep were still breathing...oh well.

Pictures today are just of what we saw on the drive - better ones tomorrow.  Enjoy!

Keep the barns coming. If you are crossing the center of this country (both ways) you should have enough for a very thick photo-book of barn picturess.

The photos of the barns would make great jigsaw puzzles.

Where are the horses that should be living in those barns?! BTW I had the farrier put Liddy's front shoes back on and she's galloping around her paddock again. Stupid vet had me nearly convinced it was time to put her down!!! Shesh.
