Today we spent within the Great Smoky Mountain Park.  The weather was on and off rain, but we managed to get in a hike to Cataract Falls with a park ranger and a drive of 43 miles round trip taking us to Cades Cove.

We encountered:
11 wild turkeys (one in full display)
8 Canada Geese
1 Deer
1 Blue Heron
3 Black Bear (Mom and 2 cubs in a tree)

 * Just to substantiate my hunch that I was looking at a large deposit of Bear scat yesterday on the path we were walking; I mentioned it to our ranger and she was on the same trail 3 hours later and saw the same thing - only when we saw it, it was FRESH!

**Oh and ALL the animals we saw today were very much alive- it was vegetable soup for us tonight!!!

Wow! I didn't see anywhere near that much wildlife when I was there a few weeks ago! I only saw one turkey, two deer, three stray dogs and a million tourists.

I forgot to ask...why is Flat Nick being burned at the stake? Was he naughty?
