My three days in Phuket were over and it was time to move on to Krabi. Phuket is an large island about 40 kilometers from north to south and 5 to 20 kilometers wide. It lies just off the mainland and to the west lies the Andaman Sea, a branch of the Indian Ocean and to the eat is a large bay/gulf/sound/sea with lots of islands (some of which I went to yesterday). Krabi lies almost due east 75km from where I was staying in Phuket on the other side of the bay. To get there we had to take a bus around the bay which took three hours.
Tak came to my lodge and I hopped into his taxi for the ride to the bus station where I bought the tickets. Its funny that the 3 hour bus ride was cheaper than a 30 minute taxi ride. From the bus, I got a good view of the Thai countryside and it was interesting to see plantations of palm trees and some other type of tree, planted in long rows. Also saw the tall limestone kryst, very stunning with shear cliffs and trees and other vegetation growing from the top and the sides.
We made it to Krabi and checked into our hotel. Krabi is a smaller town along a river. Across the river are mangrove forest growing in the water. There is a river walk like Bandon. Krabi is a lot more lay-ed back with many of the hotels, cafes and tourist shops located near the waterfront. My hotel is on the river too and is a little on the cheap side at 600 babt a night ($18). It has a TV (watched the first TV in a week) and everything but it is on the first floor next to the parking and it doesn't look well built. But for the price, why complain?
For dinner, we walked along the river front to where they were having a night market where there were many food stands and tables to eat at. I order Phat Thai noodle and fried rice with crab. Pretty good and it was nice to sitting near the river in the warm air.
