Catch train from Nongh Khai (north Thailand) to Bangkok. Sleeper bunk on train - not the most comfortable but was knocked out when i took 1.5 valium tabs. Then arrived in Chumporn for an overnight stay before i caught the train over to Koh Tao via boat.

... From my experience the journey to/from surat thani normally took at least 2.5 hours, depending on where they docked. I took a catarmaran from Chumporn once and that took about 1.5 hours to get to Koh Tao but it was hellish! Vomit central!!! ...
