Driving through 3 countries in a rental car

... are tours, if that would appeal to you. I am sure the rest of the itinerary is wonderful, but the only other place I have been is Bilbao and the Guggenheim, and I concur that it is well worth a trip. Oh, and Montserrat was wonderful too. Very spiritual.
