safety - Samaná Peninsula travel question

I have never heard that the Samana Peninsula is unsafe. Wherever did you hear about this? Other than some parts of the capital, Santo Domingo, the Dominican Republic is considered a very safe Caribbean destination.

I've also heard isla Saona is very beautiful. I have been to the Catalina Island in the Dominican Republic...it's beautiful and they have the best oceanside grilled lobster!! yummmm

... and more importantly unspoilt! We had a bbq, did some swimming, walking, relaxing with coconuts and rum, amazing!! Definately Dominican Republic is a great place for vacation and to live...never been to Saona Island?? Is amazing....
