The 'helpers' earned their $20 here, as we would still be looking for the Aduana (customs) - nowhere near the border post up the backstairs of a hospital as far as we could make out; & in a very busy market town with people pushing Indian-style bicycle ...

... (chicken buses) will be the cheap way to go, Keep in mind that you would take the bus to the border, get off and cross the border on foot, then get another chicken bus on the other side. There are four border crossings between Guatemala and Costa Rica.
