... system at Jones Falls was the most intricate we'd seen yet. I should mention that the locks were built by Colonel By as preperation for the war of 1812 between Canada and the US. There is so much heritage and natural beauty preserved at these lock sites.

I don't know if anyone wrote this here yet but "beaver tails"> What a name but they started with a kiosk on the Rideau Canal and then grew tohaving this delicious treat served right acrosss canada.....yummy

I'd say the historic town of Kingston, Ontario - Canada's first capital, gateway to the thousand islands, right on lake Ontario, end of the Rideau canal.......

... park - one of the nicest beaches I've been to in Canada - kayaking the thousand islands - Ottawa - skating the length of the Rideau Canal (sure it's cold, but it's great) and then eating a beavertail (a pastry, not an actual animal!)
