... the border into Germany, and a boat ride on a salt lake! We just missed the bus on our way out, so we started heading back to Hallein on foot when a British couple we'd met on the tour drove by us and told us to hop in. We got a free ride all the way ...

It was pretty cool to take the tram up the mountain to the salt works.  Salt was a huge part of Salzburg's original industry (salz = salt; burg = mountain) in previous centuries.
