... and some of the sights on the Tasman Peninsula into a long afternoon and early evening. Port Arthur is a must see for the colonial history - there's nothing like it anywhere else in Australia. And it's only an hour and a half from Hobart.

Agreed, Richmond is a great little town, well worth visiting. Another great day trip from Hobart would be to venture south the Tahune airwalk to see some of our amazing old growth forest (before it's all cut down) and then continue on to Hastings cave ...
