11 days into my arrival in Kabul and I celebrate my birthday with a 7kg cake lemon cake!! My colleagues and I went for a picnic to Lake Qargha in the afternoon. The day ended with dinner with friends at a pub called the Gandomack.

Right now I'm reading "The Places In Between" by Rory Stewart. A story of his walk across Afghanistan, from Herat to Kabul, in 2002. So far so good... There's a really good book about family life in Afghanistan that I read ...

Just listened to Kabul Beauty School. Incredible view of the culture of Kabul, Afghanistan. Puts current events in perspective. I really enjoyed this book....makes me really want to go there.....
