Monte Cristi, Dominican Republic

We were generously treated to a trip to the gorgeous beach at Monte Cristi.  Turns out the youngsters on the bus were the most sober and least hung over!  Seems that there are no drunk driving rules enforced in this country, nor open container laws, as evidenced by a roadside bar / outdoor dance floor, where you can buy drinks "to go" or "for the road".

Arrived in Santo Domingo late, after getting kicked off the small plane in San Juan due to overbooking (beware of Caribbean Sun Airlines). Only 50 to 60 trips to the airline desk, and we finally got on another plane.

Did you know Canada celebrates Labour Day? It's like Labor Day in the US, except they have an extra "u". We chose this day of closed businesses to enter the beautiful Algonquin Provincial Park to take a little canoe trip. There seemed to be nowhere to buy any alcohol in the entire country on this day. We enjoyed the beginnings of fall leaves changing, and tranquil, clear lakes. While chopping wood, Nat cut open his finger down to the bone! We had our trusty first aid kit with us, but realized that we need to re-stock it as everything was kind of expired. Nat rigged up a classy finger splint out of an old wire he found on the ground.

Toronto, Canada

We're off to see the wizard, the wonderful wizard of Canada. Funny how this is our first trip to see inhabited Canada! We've crossed over the border many times in the depths of it's wilderness above the great Boundary Waters Canoe Area Wilderness of Minnesota. First stop, Toronto! Got lost in the endless "up and coming" (low income?) areas of the city, searching for a "quaint, old timey" neighborhood recommended by a guidebook. Finally found the building (neighborhood? haha!) we were looking for. Pretty disappointed with Toronto in general. Despite that, everything was fun anyway, since we were with Meg and Joe!
