Missoula, Montana, United States

Ok, so we went to church with our friends. Then we headed to El Cazador to chow down before our afternoon started. Snow Bowl is the local ski resort in Missoula. We rode the ski lift up to the top and it was a long ride. They advertise mountain biking down the mountain, frisbee golf, etc., so I figured we would look around and ride down. Um, no, we hiked the 5 MILES down. And it wasn't flat. It was steep. Leigh and I hung back with Elizabeth (age, 3), who was a real trooper through it all. I can't believe how lazy I am in Dallas! I'm like super outdoorsy Columbia clothing spokesmodel. It's ridiculous! Of course the 55 degree mornings and 83 degree days help a lot!
Missoula, Montana, United States

Yeah! We're back to our 3 bedroom house so we can all spread out! Today Dan the Man cooked a superb pancake/waffle breakfast. We all chowed down and headed out for a hike. In Missoula, they have a large "L" and a large "M" on the side of two mountains for the schools in town. We planned on hiking the "M", however, when we were in Glacier on Wednesday, two kids started a fire and it's now closed. I diagnosed them ED (emotionally disturbed) and we decided to hike the "L" instead. It was steep! I'm realizing what a true lazy ass I really am!! When we finished, we headed to the merry go round for Missoula. Each horse on it was hand painted by a local artist and it is cool. The kids try to get golden rings so they can ride more. We went and ate at Ciao Mambo (a MUST if you're ever in Missoula or White Fish, Montana) and strolled across the Clark Fork bridge to watch kayakers go down the river. After a stop at The Big Dipper for Mexican Chocolate ice cream (awesome!), we headed home. BTW, The Big Dipper is a HUGE place in MT. All the ice cream is hand made and it is awesome. A college student actually broke in the place, got a double scoop of ice cream, left the money on the counter, and went home. That's how crazy everyone is about it there!
West Glacier, Montana, United States

Really? We can't get adjusted to the time, so we are getting up at 6 a.m. and waiting outside the restaurant for breakfast. Huh?! Anywho, Taylor has one last activity to complete for her Junior Park Ranger badge, so we are going on a hike. We decide to do the Trail of the Cedars. It was great. Then we ate breakfast, shopped, and took a picnic lunch with us to eat at Flathead Lake. It's about 52 degrees in the morning, so the weather is awesome! We are headed back to Missoula to hang out with my friends and eat dinner. It's been a crazy, busy three days!
West Glacier, Montana, United States

We signed up for a tour of the famous Going to the Sun Road. We did the Crown of the Continent Tour and it was 9.5 hours. Yes, you read that right. I don't know what I was thinking when I booked it. Ok, I was thinking the lady at the reservation desk said that if we had a limited amount of time in the park, this was the way to go to see the whole thing. Wow, it was an assbeating! Wind advisories and sun all day (the roofs roll back). However, it was really beautiful. They just opened it 4 days before we got there because of all the snow on the Continental Divide. Taylor was completing her Junior Park Ranger book, so doing the tour helped. It was a long day with beautiful views. There are bear warnings everywhere in the park. Luckily, the one I saw was about 2 miles away standing by a river. Bad news on the glaciers, they are now the size of my pinky nail. Go do something green!!
West Glacier, Montana, United States

We got up early in Missoula and drove to Glacier. It was about 3 hours. The drive was absolutely beautiful! We drove by Flathead Lake, which is the largest freshwater lake this side of the Mississippi. It's about 450 ft. deep. When we got to Glacier we checked into our cabin and headed to the park. We whitewater rafted in the afternoon and had a great time! It was Taylor and Scott's first time. Taylor was such a trooper and I was really proud of her. We even encountered a Class IV rapid! The water was about 42 degrees and it's the most beautiful shade of blue/green. The river is still really high because of the late snow in that area (around the middle of June!). We ate dinner at The Backroom of the Nite Owl in Columbia Falls and that was great. We were exhausted after our 2 long days in a row, so we crashed early.
It's 600 ft. straight up. We got there early enough to climb (they close the park as soon as it gets full). It was brutal! The views at the top were awesome. We came back to town and ate at PIE. Awesome!!
Luckenbach, Texas, United States

Today we woke up and it was POURING rain. For like, 4 hours straight! We were lazy and lounged in the sleep number bed (ARGGHH!!! Woke up with sore backs/necks every night!) and watched the flat screen. Had breakfast in bed. Totally lounged and it was AWESOME!! After eating at Cranky Frank's (a must if you love BBQ), we decided to get up and hit some vineyards and drive out to Luckenbach. It's a small town (pop. 3) where Willie Nelson has his famous 4th of July party. Country songs are written about it. It's got a post office/bar in the back. Very quaint. We then hit the Torre di Pietra Vineyard for a tasting. For those of you who know me, I couldn't find anything I liked. Scott liked the Claret. There are a few vineyards between Johnson City and Fredericksburg (Stonewall is the city in between). Anyway, it made me think of my sister and Dara again (the lushes!). We headed back into town for a birthday dinner at some German place and we ate weiner schnitzel. I can't wait to hear all the crude comments from my friends regarding this entry!!
There are tons of German restaurants and bakery's. We ate at Altdorf German Biergarten and Restaurant. Not that great! We then moved on to shopping downtown. There are quaint shops, winery stores, and cool furniture/iron stores. We checked into the Chardonnay Cottage through Absolute Charm. That place is AWESOME if you're ever looking for lodging in town. Also, it's just steps from Main St. We finished the night at Hondo's (restaurant/bar). There was live music and it was relaxing.
Mona works for a magazine and they get TONS of perks. Guess who was invited to see Pat Benatar in concert today, complete with backstage passes? ME!! I've had the MT trip booked since July. I stayed with the first trip. Now that I'm here and it's so beautiful, I'm all, "Who's Pat Benatar?". OK, maybe I thought about her A LITTLE when I needed an oxygen tank and Depends on the hike up and down the mountain (by the way, Leigh's three year old made it like a trooper!) to the "M". Maybe next time Pat!

Today was Grizzly game day. It's a huge deal. It says, "Go Grizz" everywhere and the fans are fanatics. They have huge tailgates and everyone has a lot of fun. Apparently there is no open container law here, b/c people are walking around with cases of beer while drinking it. The whole university area is really pretty. Lot's of people ride bikes and eat granola. Leigh says there is a big Hemp Day celebration once a year and it is packed here (already bought my ticket back! haha!). I can't get over how much I love this place. Bev says to come back in January and then see if I love it so much (thanks mom!).

J and I bought pumpkins this morning and it was fun! We picked out 7 and then went to get the spider web materials. He found a witch's broom, so I'm sure Leigh will be ending our friendship when I bring him back home. I'm so excited it's actually fall somewhere!
