Willy was so kind to give us a narrated tour of Big Water, the little town next to Lake Powell.Big Water is the town known for there many polygamist familys.Only 400 people live in Big Water and the most import business is the boat storage business

We spent the day in Portland (the nights also) and walked the streets of Portland.  The first 'real American' city we encountered in 3 weeks.  And there was traffic.  Our first traffic jam in 3 weeks ! ;)I think we've seen every street in downtown, business district and it was sort of a disappointment.  Back 'home' at the Rose-garden we discovered why.  We had parked our car in the 'wrong' district and by that, we had walked the 'wrong' streets.The next day we 'did' the Columbia Gorge.  7 spectacular waterfalls, and you can see them almost from in your car.  But I must admit, after seeing nature's beauties 5 times, the sixth is 'oh, another waterfall, next'.Driving the tour took us trough 'Fruit-land'.  Farmers and Orchards who sell their marvelous stuff along the road.  Perfectly ripe pears, delicious cookies, fabulous milkshakes,...  It was worth it.

The CS-group in Salem setted up a meeting on Sunday.  Since our hosts from Portland attended that meeting, we also went.  Funny bunch of people they were, presenting their so called talents. Oh you wonder what these are?  Hmm, how do you feel like sticking abeer can to your forehead?  Of spelling the alphabet in reverse?  Iguess at our age, we're not that talented anymore and have developedother skills...  Eating chocolate cake that late in the afternoonspoiled our dinner a little bit however ;)

After breakfast in 'The Glenwood', a nice little eating place in Eugene, we left for the Oregon Coast.At Heceta Beach, I dipped my big toe in the Pacific Ocean,  so another one of my 'goals' for this trip were accomplished.   What an extraordinary beachline this is btw...!We drove the Pacific Highway up to Newport and then headed for the Couchsurfing meeting in Salem.

When we departed from Crater Lake they told us there was a woodfire and the highway we were supposed to take was closed.  So we had a little detour ahead of us, namely 3 hours !Till that time I had not been able to contact Mary in person, so I just left messages on here voicemail.  Lucky for us she was still offering a bed, even when we arrived not sooner then 9.10 pm.

Crater Lake National Park, Oregon, United States

One of the 8 wonders of the world is Crater Lake.  A lake created when a volcano errupted and then collapsed.  Like most visitors, our first word was 'WOW'.  Beautiful shades of blue, enormuous heights and widths. 9 out of 12 months, most of the park is closed due to snowfall.  This year it only opened as early as the beginning of July and it will close again by the end of September.It was worthwhile going down there.  The trip back was something different.

Since Bryan had cooked chicken for us the night before, we took him for breakfast the next morning.  I know I don't have to do that, but one can never have to much good karma.Driving from Boise to Bend took us about 7 hours.  Nothing going on in between, only the perspective of arriving in Bend that evening.  I read somewhere in Book that Bend was one of the most friendly, nicest places in the States (for a single woman).  I must confess the downtown are did not disappoint me.We went for dinner to Bo's bistro pub. I give it 4 out of 5 stars.  Yummy food with a Thai twist.The first Fridaynight of every month is also 'Art Walk'-evening.  A lot of shops are open till 10 pm and give you wine and snacks for free.  All with the intention to lend there walls to artists.  It brings a nice atmosphere to the town.

Boise, Idaho, United States

I did my shopping in one of the 2 big Super Walmarts in Idaho Falls (we don't have Betty Crocker cake mix nor jello in Belgium) and left for Boise on thursday.While driving from Idaho Falls to Boise, we should had found at least twohotsprings.  Unfortunatelly our GPS could not handle the GPS locationsKaren had given me.   We did find the Craters of the Moon (hard to miss).  A vast black space with lavarock.  Very strange that almost nothing wants to grow there.  And I kept thinking that lava was so furtile.By 6 pm we arrived in Boise and with that, Bryans home.  He lives in a beautifull nice and quiet neighbourhood.  And in a neat home he decorated himself.He had beer can chicken on the grill for us.  So the only thing I could do in return was treat him with desert and breakfast.He strolled with us to downtown Boise and turned out to be an excellent guide.
