Sydney, Australia

She finally managed it and got to see Dirty Dancing, the stage show. She went with Carol (who's birthday is tomorrow) and Nicola. By the sounds of it they had a really good time, however, apparently there is a slight resemblance of Sarah with the star of the show, Kim Valentine (a.k.a. the charachter Libby from neighbours in episodes gone by), due to the fact that she had her hair in ringlets like Sarah did.
Bangkok, Thailand

The Skytrain running around Bangkok has 2 uses. Use 1 is for the ability to get to and from one place to another. Use 2 is as a freezer. The air con is bloody cold once you step onto the Skytrain, which is very pleasant after the heat in Bangkok. Today we went to Wat pho and the Grand Palace. We took the train to the Chao Phraya river and took a boat up the river. At Wat Pho we saw the largest reclining Buddha, but we nearly didnt make it as we nearly got scammed. A well dressed man came to us and told us the temple was closed as it was Buddhist day. He said that it wouldn't open until 1pm so in the mean time we could take a Tuk Tuk and go see some other sights. Now this type of scam was mentioned in the Lonely Planet book, and Anthony fell for it. Well nearly did until I pulled him away. Lo and behold the temple was open. Next we headed up to the Grand Palace to see the emerald Buddha. 15cm tall and worth a fortune. We both had to make sure we had trousers and at least t-shirt length tops on as it is an offence to show certain pink bits in a Thai temple. Needless to say we cooked like crazy. On the way back we popped to Ko San Road (backpacker place) and needless to say it was full of crusties. We had our first green Curry and Tom Yam soup. After getting back to the hotel we went for dinner across the road as it looked very busy. Turned out we were the only westeners there and no-one spoke English. It also turned out that you had to cook your own food by choosing meats from a counter (god knows what they were) and then cooking them on a stove at your table. We ended up copying what the locals were doing and it turned out to be a great meal. Anthony lost about a stone through sweating though as once again it was bloody hot.
Singapore, Singapore

We arrived at Singapore airport, which is a huge place. Anthony went to have a cigarette at the outdoor garden after 13 hours on a plane, and when we went outside the heat knocked us for six. Even though it was only 7am. We stopped off for a free massage in the duty free area and then hit the plane for Bangkok. Once in Bangkok we took a taxi to the Bangkok Asia hotel where we would be spending the next week. We slept until 4pm then ventured out into the city . Walking to the Siam centre, one of the main nearby shopping centre's, Anthony dropped a cigarette on the floor. Next thing we were tapped on the shoulder by a Thai guard and asked to follow him. Anthony was asked to fill in a piece of Thai paperwork (not gonna happen as we didn't speak Thai). As we couldn't understand him and he us we didn't realise that we would be fined 2000bhat for littering. In the country for a few hours and already in trouble with the police. After this no litter was dropped again. As we were hungry we went on the search for food. We decided to go to one of the biggest restaurants in Bangkok. Macky d's!. After this we wandered around for a bit trying to get used to the humidity, but ended up sweating cobs anyway. We ended the day back at the hotels Vietnamese restaurant tasting snails (v good) and then sank a few Singha beers whilst listening to a Thai Elvis impersonation. Thank you very much......
Its a big tower which allows people to throw themselves off the top attached to a cable if they want to. We spent the day wandering around the city (which traffic wise was a lot busier than anywhere else we have been) and taking int he sights.

August 15th 2005

Our last day here in New Zealand. Its been amazing. The south island is the most beautiful place full of sights that blow your mind away. The south of the north island is the better part of the north but hey, you can't have it all. We've met some wonderful people, travellers and locals, as well as seen and done some amazing things. Quite possibly the best place yet. Its now onto Fiji for 10 days and then the cook islands so no updates for a while. After that its LA for our last leg of the tour across the USA!
