Grand Canyon, Arizona, United States

We had enough of Vegas, it's just too big, too flash, too over the top, too few morals, just about too much everything, so we were glad to leave the city of sin and move on. We rode out to the west rim of the Grand Canyon and stopped by the Hoover Dam along the way. It is quite a sight today and must have been spectacular when it was built in the 1930's. After we left the Hoover Dam we headed for the Grand Canyon, historically it has not been the most popular tourist part of the canyon, but I think with the recent developments there that fact is changing pretty quickly. The road signs aren't great leading up to the canyon, so we stopped at some random builing in the middle of nowhere and stumbled across a little gem. The owner builds hotrods for a living and we saw a few beauties. The last part of the road leading to the canyon wasn’t great, it is un-tarred and not suitable for Harley’s. We were counting on a shuttle bus running from the last little town just before the gravel road, but they don’t run on Monday’s and we were there on a Monday, just our luck. The bad road was worth it though, the Grand Canyon is awesome, it is difficult to wrap your mind around it while you are there, never mind in photos. I tried taking a video clip of a helicopter flying at the bottom of the Canyon to put things into perspective, but it just doesn’t do it justice. The part of the canyon we went to has just recently started being developed, the land belongs to the Hualapai Indian tribe and have not had the funds till recently to start development. The facilities are fairly basic, but they have a horseshoe shaped walkway with a glass bottom which hangs over the edge of the canon, you are suspended over a 1km drop. There is a lot of development underway, with one of the major developments the gravel road being tarred. Once that is done, it should become one of the most popular tourist sites as it would be the closest Grand Canyon site by a fair margin to Las Vegas.

From the Grand Canyon we travelled through more Desert to Kingman, which is where we were joining Route 66. The evening went through to a lekka Cowboy restaurant and  had a great evening enjoying some steak.

We wanted to get to Vegas a quick as possible so we pushed on today, it was a hectic ride, we did 1,100km. We managed to get all the way to Salt Lake City after 13 hours of riding, we were both finished.

We flew from SF to Seattle to pick up the bikes. It wasn't the greatest weather to ride in, a bit rainy and cold, but we went over some great mountains. We managed to get about 400km done and quite far east. We wanted to get away from the bad weather as quick as possible.

We had anther tough day of riding, as soon as we hit the desert the temp rose dramatically. It was very hot. We rode through some great landscape, including a nice canon riding from Utah to Arizona. Zion HD We ended in Vegas after about 600km.We checked into the hotel and then went and picked up Sonja :) she made the trip out as a last minute thing.Some shots from Vegas.New York New York - where we stayed. Day 8 - San Francisco, California, United States

The stories are going to be short from here on in, I don't have the time or the internet access to made the longer/We went to the Napa Valley on our last day in SF, it was a lot of fun. The bus go stuck in the mud at our first stop, so we stayed a little longer than anticipated.After the wine tasting it was back the hotel to pack and get ready for the bike trip.

Day 7 – San Francisco, California, United States

Today the rain was bucketing down, so much so it made us late and we almost missed our appointment with the Ning guys, fortunately we got a few minutes with them. Ning is a Yahoo owned company which does an open source email solution.Cisco in the afternoon was excellent, it is difficult to explain how cool all the technology was, so I won't. I might explain in person when I get back, or show you some video footage. All I can say is that it was well worth it.

Day 6 – San Francisco, California, United States

This morning we had a little earlier start than usual, we had to take the Caltrain to Palo Alto where we visited Stanford University. Stanford was a great experience, the campus is really something special. It cost a whole lot of money to attend Standford, somewhere between $40k to $60 per year. Ning was a very interesting company, it is a social networking site and is based across the road from the original Facebook premises.

San Francisco - Day 5, California, United States

The first morning in SF we went on a city tour, going past all the sights and things to see in the city. It was pretty quite being a Sunday morning, so at least the traffic was light. It ended up being a really hectic day, there was the Columbus day parade, the Oracle convention, Blue Angles (Air force formation flying jets) and the SF49'rs were playing football. Needles to say the crowds in town got quite big.  On the tour we went up to the twin peaks, the view was great but the weather unfortunately wasn’t. We also stopped by the city hall and the old Victorian houses known as the seven sisters or the painted ladies.We ended of the tour with a walk across the Golden Gate Bridge. We ended up getting stuck amongst the group marching for gay rights, there was a lot of TV coverage, so I might end up on TV "Marching" for gay rights.The tour went on to Alcatraz which I didn’t join because I did it in December. Some of the guys went off the see the president’s cup and a few others went and watched the 49’rs lose. I just walked around town and pretty much took it easy for the rest of the day.

San Francisco - Day 4, California, United States

Flew into San Francisco and landed at night. We got the coach to the hotel and got settled in, a couple of the guys went out again, but I was very tired and go an early night after supper.
