Fussen, Germany

What we saw today was unbeliveable. It is Castle Neuschwanstein which is in Fussen Germany at the end of the Romantic Road. This is the castle that Walt Disney based his Magic Kingdom after. We started our day off with a horse and buggie ride up the hill to where the castle was. We had great seats in the carriage ride. Front row seats with an amazing view of the forrest with the castle peeking over the tress only bad thing was the horses had gas. Take the bad with the good I guess. We got a personally guided tour thorugh the castle which included a theatre he built in the castle as well as a pathway thorugh the wall that was designed to look like you were inside a cave. We werent allowed any pics inside the castle but were allowed to take some of the views from the castle so enjoy those at least. Oh ya and after our tour throughthe castle we hiked in the forrest for three hours, very fun!!! And our hike finished with a gerat view of the city and the castle and a sweet score on two walking sticks I might add!
Munich, Bavaria, Germany

WE DID IT!!!!! Success!!!! Oktoberfest!!!!! Jealous anyone???? We just went tothe biggest beer fest of Europe and man it was a one of a kind event.

So the only size ofbeer htat they drink is litre beer so heavy that our wrists actually hurt in the morning. And the mazing thing is these waitress can carry up to eight of them at one time. And well if you are in their way they just push you out of the way with the beers. WE went for two nights we and we were lucky to get seats at the tables beucase people book thier tables in January. But we managed to find a table full of German who ewre willing to drink with two Canadian girls!!! And yes they were TOTALLY wearing liederhosens and the women in their german dresses and push up bras!!!!

We did some beer hall hopping each one is diffeernently decorated. But each one includes live music which is hilarious to hear a german band sing Bryan Adams in english. And everyone in the hall is on their tables dancing and banging their litres of beer together with a good old PROST!!!! Which means cheers in german....I would say by the end of the night that we were german and singing along with their german drinking songs. WE arent too sure if it was the beer, the liederhosens, or the great suspenders holding those little leather shorts up but well by the end of the night we were quite fluent in german.....we think!!!

You can now re live OCTOBERFEST with us through our videos. But remember we are taking the videos with Robby PINK digital camera so sound quality isnt the greatest...have a beer I am sure it will sound better!!!!
Oranienburg, Brandenburg, Germany

So here we are learning again. Today we went to Sachsehausen Concentration Camp and focussed primarily on World War II and it is a blueprint for later concentration and death camps during the second world war. To set the mood the weather on this day was horrible, it was cold, and raining all day and the tour was outdoor. But our tour guide never let the whole tour for even a moment complain about the conditions- he always reminded us and made us aware of how lucky we were to be in those conditions compared to the prisoners who were at the camp. We saw the main gates and a clock above that is set to 11:09am...the time the camp was liberated in 1945 when the war ended. We saw where the prisoners had to do roll call everyday and about the horrible conditions they lived through. We saw a memorial barrack, and a really horrifying Station Z where the guards/nazis literally took prisoners in a murdered them and set it up so that the prisoners thought they were getting a medical check-up! Horrible!
It was a really eye opening and interesting tour- really makes you think about the past and hope that something like the the holocaust will never happen again. The words that our tour guide left us with were "NEVER AGAIN" and that is what we will leave you all with!!
Berlin, Germany

Here we are in Berlin, a city with massive amounts of history. So we put our learning shoes on and decided to edumacate (or however u spell it...its been a while since we have been in school) ourselves. We did a FREE walking tour of the city and it was amazing. It showed us all around the city and pointed out some of these highlights. The tour started off at the Brandenburg Gate which is a famous site for Berlin, went to the Reichstag which is the Parliment buildings. Then we headed to a pretty recent Holocaust Memorial which is placed in the centre of the city so that every tourist, bussinessman, student and local are forced to pass by it and forced to think! It is made of many many concrete stones that resemble coffins of varrying sizes. The meaning is open to interpretation...some other ideas are that they look like train cargos in which they carried the prisoners to the concentration camps in, or a bar graph of the growth of anti-semitism in Germany during the 1930's. No matter what you think it means it definately affects you!! Then we headed to the grounds over top of Hitler's Secret Bunker during World War II. There is no way to go visit it because it was destroyed later on and there is no plaque to comemorate it because they do not want Hitler to be honoured in any way. The only way that he is "honoured" is there are apartment buildings right near the site and all of the residents with dogs bring their dogs down everyday to do their "bussiness" on top of where Hitler's Bunker used to be!!!
We went and saw Check Point Charlie (Rene...it was the last thing we needed to do on your list!!!) This was the main passing point between East and West Berlin during the Cold War.
Then we saw a Memorial for the 1933 Nazi Book Burning Memorial. As well learned how the Berlin Wall finally fell in November 1989, which led to the reunification of Berlin!!
The next day we felt like continuing our learning so we headed to a tour of a concentration camp....read the next entry to find out!!
Yes you read that right MUSICALS!!!! I know what some of you are thinking Robby and Sare cant sing but isnt it really about the enthusiam and energy that one puts into the song. Well we hope it is!

So on our last day in Salzburg we thought what better way to...say good bye so long....was to do it in a musical fashion. So we used the same filming areas that the so called orignal movie used but come on pepople if we were to define original it wold clearly be our musical number of Do Re Me!!!

Brace yourself for the experience of a lifetime, just let the song take you away to the hills of Salzburg!!!!
They actually show it everyday in our hostel for free!! We have been touring around the city relieving some famous scenes!! (of course we look like idiots but we aren't the only ones!!)
We actaully thought the song words were the BEER is alive...so we went and did a Brewery tour at Steigl. There was a self guided beer museum, 3 tastings, and a FREE gift!!
Then we hit up the famous Salzburg Marriontette Theatre. We watched a marriontette production of "The Magic Flute"- it was AMAZING. So different from anything we have ever seen...and believe me we've seen a lot of theatre.
Then under Rene's guidance we hit up some austrian beer gardens....THANKS!!!
It is a very tiny country (not as small as Vatican City though!!!) It borders Austria and Switzerland. The WHOLE country takes only 30 minutes to drive across!! When the lady at the tourist office showed us where we were on a map I laughed when I found out she was showing us a map of the WHOLE COUNTRY and not just the city we were in. Leichtenstien and their people know its a small country and they pride themselves on it...just like Canadians pride themselves on being BEER drinkers!!! There is a Prince of Leichtenstein (still active) so we walked up to his castle....but he wouldn't let us in for tea! (or beer)

We got our passports stamped with the OFFICIAL Liechtenstein visitor stamp. As well we walked all the way to Switzerland....it took about 20 minutes!! Check out the pic of Sare standing on the border of both countries!!

This was another really beautiful and peaceful place. We took a bus up into the mountains to Malbun and got a really amazing view of the country and some scenery. As well as experienced a 10 degree drop in temperature....BRRRRR!!!
All in all Leichtenstein you did us well!!!
