Hanmer Springs, New Zealand

Today we are up and off at 9am stopping off for a decent breakfast at the café across from the blow holes. We have a long drive ahead of us if we wanna make it to Hanmer Springs in time to hit the thermal pools & spa. We stop of at various places along the way, again taking pics, letting Lizzie run on the beach and have lunch before finally arriving at our planned destination when the fun begins. Not many places are dog friendly and we encounter a horrible stuck up woman  at the first caravan park who says in her bestest put on posh voice when we ask if its ok for Lizzie to walk in the grounds 'of course not she will have to be on a lead!' Obviously we are not staying here then. We then find another place which is dog friendly but it is unfortunately full just our luck, however the lady was very nice and phoned another park who she knew was dog friendly too  so we went there. They maybe dog friendly but there is only one room that dogs can stay in and this is booked already so Lizzy will have to sleep in the Big Fella but at least she can run around a little. Once we are settled and sorted we head to the Hanmer Springs Thermal Pools & Spa to chill out and relax as you can see from the pictures. The hottest spa is 42 degrees so we spend most of the time in that one though there are another 11 to choose from. The views are stunning; Snow Cap Mountains, fields of green and crisp fresh air make it the most perfect place in the world, should think it would be even better surrounded by snow as the brochure shows. We are now getting a little hungry and someone suggests pizza for tea, yum, sounds great though the lengths we have to go to to get a bloody pizza is just well wrong I guess. We leave the lovely hot spas, put our bags in the car and walk across the road looking for a pizza shop figuring there has gotta be one somewhere every town has a pizza shop don't it? No success so we walk around a little and find a small restaurant with pizza on the menu only once seated to find out that it's the lunch menu! We leave, now starving and mouth watering and continue to look for pizza all to no avail. We find a pub and look at the menu and just as I have resided myself to the fact that we ain't gonna get pizza so I will settle for tomato soup some one says they do great pizza at the Heritage Hotel which looks way too posh for us to be in right now. We amble in regardless and are seated at a table looking at this menu that the waitress has handed us; all fancy dishes and NO BLOODY PIZZA here either! So we ask and she tells us 'oh that's the lunch menu or we do them to take away. You can't have pizza in here in the evening.' She then disappears into the kitchen to speak to the chef who we later find out is her boyfriend and comes back to tell us we can have pizza and we can have it here. Yippee.  Pizza is ordered and it takes bloody ages and I'm afraid to say it wasn't worth the wait, none of us really enjoyed it but we did have a laugh. Home to bed. To be continued. . . . .

Kota Kinabalu, Brunei

So as far as doing things go we have come to a bit of a stand still!This place is amazing there is just too much to do. So much so that by the time we decided exactly what we wanted to do we couldn't because they were fully booked up till next week!We first decided we could just about afford to go to Sipadan for 3 days which is one of the best places in the world to dive and decided to stay on the island Mabul, then the guy (Borneo Divers) told us their quota of dive permits for Sipadan was full and if you can't dive at Sipadan then there is really no point going. Plus the fact that there were no flights available and we didn't fancy the 10 hour bus drive cause we would have been too knackered to enjoy the diving. We could have stayed on the converted oil rig which sounds nice too and is about the same price, but like we always say if you are going to do something do it right. So we plan to come back next year and maybe go for 5 days when I will be a more confident diver too. Then we decided we should perhaps climb Mount KK, again a permit is need for this and of course there are now no permits available (Sophie & Averill had enquired about this for us before we got here and they had said 'yeah yeah there will be no problems just tell them to come down). We could have stayed at the base camp and walked around there but we didn't see the point. So just what have we done? Well Ben has done some more diving and also managed to get 2 free dives by helping out on a Discover Scuba Course. We went to the movies and watched the worst horror film (which was more funny than scary) we have ever seen. We went bowling which was great fun and on the first game not one of us got a strike (the same pin would be left standing; I'm sure it was glued down) but then i got the ball rolling by getting a strike and everyone else followed suit. We watched beautiful sunsets and walked for what seems like miles to get some amazing pics for you. On Sunday one of the roads turns in to a huge market selling anything and everything from pet rabbits, puppies and terrapins to Holy Water! I know I was amazed too but we got a pic as proof before the battery went flat. On Saturday night we went to Bed and watched the same band Swerve who played a completely different set and were as brilliant as they were before, the place was packed. Averill was very drunk and so funny. We spent the time between sets playing paper, scissor, stone for drinks and laughed loads (crazy I know). We were all quite drunk when we left to go home to our real beds.This place is so geared up for travelers with lots of hostels and small hotels to stay in I don't know why more people are not seeing the delights of Borneo. It is a tad confusing though when the map and guide books refer to it as Brunei which is only tiny while Borneo is split into two parts; Malaysia and Indonesia. You can base your self here in KK and travel in all directions there's so much to do you get an automatic 90 day visa on arrival so I hope you manage to get here one day cause you are missing out on so much.Tonight we are taking Sophie & Averill to Little Italy for dinner - this is a must if you come here the food and service is excellent.Can definitely recommend to stay here Tropicana Lodge (www.tropincanalodgekk.com)its 20 ringitts per nite per person. They have internet at 3 ringitts and hour will cook a cheap lovely dinner for you too and breakfast is included.Tomorrow we fly to KL for a few days of compact sight seeing.To be continued. . . . .

We don't seem to get as many bank holidays here in Perth as you do over at that freezing cold place at the other side of the world, so when we do get one we relish the day or two days that we get. Of course Easter break is world wide and getting two days off work in a row is a rarity which makes it a super long hot weekend to get out and have fun which is just what we did on this particular Good Friday. A friend of a friend invited us out on his boat for the day so we figured what the hell, let's grab some beers and head off down the river for a Barbie. Of course its takes for ever for this lot to get organised especially after the boys have had a big night out the night before! But of course it was well worth the wait once we got out on the water. They dropped the girls off at the waters edge while they water skied around as the boat was too heavy with all of us on. We chattered and watched the boys stack over and over, then headed off to another part on the river for lunch which for some bizarre reason had a marquee set up with tunes kicking out so we chilled for a little while before heading across the water to balckwall reach which is a high wall where all these stupid people jump off in to the water without trying to kill themselves!! Of course I stayed on the boat as did the other girls while we laughed at the lads. Once the testosterone had depleted a little we moved to a quieter part of the river and took turns on the doughnut which was wild, being whipped around all over the place - check out the pics especially the ones of me pulling all kinds of weird faces!! And watch the video's for the stacks at the end - one of them is pretty spectacular!We caught a little too much sun and was pretty knackered by the time we had all done so we headed home to chill out. Top day for sure.The next day we had to take our coffee machine back cause its bustered already; we've only had it 6 months so we managed to get out money back with little fuss and bought a more industrial one which hopefully should last us a bit longer!On Sunday we went to Freo street festival which was ok but fully of kids running riot and its was to hot to be standing around in the street so we sacked it off and went home. Monday we just chilled and prepared ourselves to go back to work the next day - oh if only we could have a fully week off. Well only 7 weeks to go till we got on that plane!To be continued. . . . .

So the last time we spoke I said that Ben was planning on taking me diving - against my will of course! I tried faking illness; he was having none of it; I tried saying 'babe you would have a much more enjoyable dive with out me'; he was having none of that either. So having run out of excuses Friday after work I find myself down at the dive shop trying on wet suits and gathering my dive gear together in preparation for tomorrows dive!The weather has been bloody hot as usual with most days around 35 degrees plus and I can't remember that last time it rained. As you are all aware morning is not my best time unless I'm on my home from a drunken girl's wild night out! So having to get up a 5.50 am is really not my idea of fun but I have no choice. Toby rocks up at 6.20 while Ben and I are sat on the porch coffee and cig in hand. I reluctantly get my shit together, jump in the car and away we go. I have no idea where we are going. Ben tells me we are heading south to Ammo Jetty; it's a shallow easy dive and there should be plenty to see; ok what ever, I should be in bed!!!!!!It's only a 20 minute drive so before I have too long to wallow in self pity still wishing I was back in my comfy bed, Toby pulls to a screeching stop in the car park; time for a ciggie me thinks! Mick is already here he's always the first to arrive because he's so bloody eager. Di (Mick's wife) and young Michael (their son) is already unpacking the esky's which are full of goodies for a cooked breakfast and several beers for the boys later. Di and Michael don't dive so Di has kindly offered to cook us all breakfast. Mark rocks up next then Mick's cousin Cass and her husband who is incidentally originally from Liverpool and a crazy Everton supporter which was great as it gave me a chance to talk football. Cass's mate came too but I can't remember her name. They are all dive fanatics, I still don't get it. I was nervous as hell but what could really happen with all these great divers around me?So I don my gear while stomach is churning; I can't help it, it's been almost a year since my last dive on Rotto and I remember how fucking bad the current was swishing me all over the place like an under water hurricane; it's not exactly tropical diving! Time for a coffee to calm the nerves before we take the short stroll to the beach and wade in to the water. Ben has given me his stumpy tank to use as he thinks it may be easier for me to carry than the longer tanks, alas the 200 yard walk kills me but the view is stunning. It's so hard walking on a carpet of soft smooth sand crystals with all this weight on and I'm swaying all over the place like I've drunk a bottle of Vodka neat! The water is a little chilly but the full length 7mm wet suit I have on should keep out most of the cold. The funniest thing now is watching me and Cass trying to get our fins on without falling over. Cass is the same height as me 4ft nothing!! Only kidding I'm 4 foot 10 inches really but still I struggled to stay up right even with Ben holding me up. Eventually we are ready so we just keep wading, then as we lay down we just follow the lie of the sea bed till we are a good 6 to 8 meters down. It's dark and dingy under the jetty and having only gone a few meters I'm already struggling and hating every second of it. The bloody tank on my back keeps moving to one side and then I proceed to follow it round in a circle as the weight of it whips me round like I'm being spun on the Waltza. Shit I can't deal with this. Ben gives me the OK signal to make sure I'm ok, I wanna just scream out 'er no I'm not ok you flaming idiot; I'm doing summersaults here left right and centre while your trying to drag me down further; just stop and let me get my shit together will ya.' Of course Ben thinks its great underwater cause I can't shout at him so I wiggle my hand about to let him know I'm not ok then try and re-establish my composure only to be whipped round the other way so now I'm freaking out and it feels like the tank is falling off me. Ben has finally realised what has happened, grabs hold of me and straightens me out, then starts dragging me along as we have lost sight of everyone after my little episode and the visibility is shit. So now I've recomposed myself I feel ok; ok I'm lying I can't see a fucking thing even with this bloody torch on. Ben try's to point stuff out to me, I see a few fish, a plastic chair and an old rusty beer can, oh yeah babe this is bloody great! I think he realises that after just 20 minutes I have enough so we go back up to the real world and I say 'look you'll enjoy your dive much better without me, go have fun with you mates.' I wade back to shore and struggle across the beach back to the winding path that will lead me to the smell of sizzling sausages and bacon to swill down with a nice cup of coffee while Ben sinks down under to find his buddies. Safely back on dry land Di and Cass's husband (forgot his name) are shocked to see me appear so suddenly I tell them 'enough already, I need coffee and I don't wanna talk about it.' The sun is now shinning and it's gonna be another beautiful day, I head across to the showers to get out of this gear put my shorts on and relax. The boys and girls dived for about an hour and just as I was heading up for a walk along the jetty as opposed to being under it the troops coming strolling along so I walk back with them and we all settle down for breakfast while having a good laugh at my lack of diving skills. So now I get the chance to walk down the jetty which is really beautiful and I can see dolphins playing in the shallows on my right, while straight ahead are some huge pelicans' waiting to be fed by those fishing dotted along the pier. There are now a few families on the beach too so I take a few pics and head back; now the boys are preparing to get back in the water, Ben has the camera and wants to get some pics. When they come back Ben shows me all these pictures on the camera and I'm like 'where the fuck you just been diving cause I didn't see nothing down there?' I kid you not check out the pics I didn't see a bloody thing, well maybe one or two little fishes but nothing else and apparently there are like a million octopuses down there!!We spent a good half day just sitting round and chatting, walking up and down the pier and I got an awesome photo of a pelican flying overhead. Well now that my birthday is in the height of summer (Yyipppppeeeeeeeeeeeee) I decided to have a pool party. January has been mighty hot with 25 days being above 36 degrees!! And then of course the weekend of my b'day they forecast thunder storms and showers!! Story of my bloody life. But thankfully the rain held off; it was 37 degrees but the humidity made it feel like 45!! We cranked up the Barbie, stuck a joint of beef on and played in the pool till around 3am. Well that's when I called it a do and left them all to it. Several large bottles of Jim Beam were drank along with my iron brew wkd's and lots of beer so it got pretty messy as you can imagine. I will try and up load pics.Spent most of Sunday sleeping and dying!!!! Along with feeling like shit for the next 2 days!! I didn't get much for my b'day well in saying that the police tickets were for my birthday so I guess in terms of money I got a lot but other than that I got 2 latte glass cups to go with my coffee machine and very nice they are too and I got a book. I'd told my mate Jan about this book that had just been released here in Oz since we get everything years after the rest of the bloody world!! Anyway it is the book by OJ Simpson 'If I DID IT' for which there has been lots of controversy about since we all know he did and he finally admitted it in a book which he hoped to make millions from and in fact gets fuck all from it!! Now that's what I call justice! Well perhaps not as much justice as if he'd have been sent to the eclectic chair. It's well worth a read if you like to read; the man is unbelievable in how he describes his wife!! I am now reading the new John Grisham book which I bought with my birthday money from another girlfriend. Seems a bit like Erin Brockovich but maybe it will get better. Thanx for the birthday cards.Work is; same old shit different day and I am so looking forward to our holidays to come and visit you rabble. Still not one hundred percent sure as to actual plans yet other than that we land on 15 May which is about 13 weeks away!!! We have been away almost 2 years now can you believe it???? Sometimes it feels like a life time and other times it feels like only months its bizarre, so we are looking forward some of you guys coming to visit later in the year or next year. We have no plans to go anywhere so hope you get of your backsides and see how the other half lives.Next week; we will finally have some rain after 60 days of 35 plus degrees, it will be heaven you kinda get fed up of not being able to do much cause its just too bloody hot but now it will get back to 37 plus degrees for the rest of the week and Ben is taking me diving on Sunday which means I will have some thing else to write about. Well I figure I better let you all know that the POLICE concert rocked!! It wasn't cheap but to sit so close to the stage and watch one of the best bands that have ever lived was worth every cent let me tell ya!!What can I say; we caught the train, didn't take the bloody camera cause it said no camera's on the tickets and some of the places are really strict like checking bags etc so we didn't wanna risk only to see that when we got there they were just letting people in with their camera's. I was gutted to say the least and very nearly trekked all the way back home to get ours!! I wish I had since we were practically sat on the bloody stage. Oh well I will know next time won't I. Ben got some half decent pics on his phone and a few video clips where all you can here is me singing and screaming very loud so I will up load them. They may take a day or so to up load since our internet connection is running slow just now cause some fucking wanker has used our down load amount for this month; a full 12 gig!!! What the fuck were they down loading I would like to know? Some of you will be thinking justice has been served since we have used so many people's internet connections in the past for free!!!! Like I always say 'what goes around comes around!' Oh well we've rest the pass word and they will have a bloody hard time cracking this one for sure!!To be continued. . . . .

Just a quick update.As you all know its my birthday next week (your cards in the post i hear you saying)and I've managed to get hold of 2 tickets to see the POLICE LIVE IN CONCERT for the 3rd row in front of the stage, well just to the left a bit. Man its gonna be a blast and I'm so excited. Then on Saturday we are having a pool party which should be a blast; its way more fun having your birthday in summer as opposed to the dead of winter!! Wish you could all be here but alas you can't so I will have several drinks on your behalf!!Ok so we have booked our flights to come and visit you lot freezing your tits off in the UK!! We fly into Manchester on Thursday 15th may - 7.05pm and fly back out on the 4th June so we have 3 weeks to catch up with everyone. It's gonna be pretty hectic but it will be a blast for sure!! We are then having 3 days in Dubai; we had hoped to stay longer but England is gonna cost us a fortune and Dubai is way more expensive than one thinks!!! But we gotta have a couple of days to try and catch up on some sleep although after reading the hotel reviews for the kinda place we can afford to stay I don't think we will be getting much sleep!! Hopefully we will bring some of this sun and heat with us to England; its still 30+ every day closer to 40 most days and we haven't had a single drop of rain for 50 days!!!See ya all in about 16 weeks!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Don't be making any plans now except to catch up with us and get pissed on the weekend.To be continued. . . . .

US!!!!You may find it hard to beleive but we landed in Perth 1 year ago today!!!! And what a year 2007 was. I find it hard to beleive that life can get much better than it already has done for us but here's hoping we have an amazing 2008!!!So you're probably all wondering just what we have been up to over the new year. Well its been a tad crazy and I'm so in need of sleep right now.Ben's been off work since 21st Dec while me I've been working none stop in between. I finished about 2pm on NYE and went for coffee with Jan from work to catch up on the xmas gos since she has a whole 2 weeks off as does half the bloody office but not me!! Anyway I finally got home about 3.30pm to find that Ben had sorted the garden out and set everything up for tonight as we are having a few friends round to help us celerate the New Year. There isn't the same kind of night life here as back in sunny Huddersfield - most people just chill out in the yard with a few mates, plenty of beers and the barbie is cranked up to cook a roast. It's been another scortchio day (I'm sure you don't wanna here that - hope your not too cold over in Yorkshire)so by 4pm people are already arriving and jumping in the pool to cool down. The alcohol is soon flowing and the food is smelling very nice indeed. Steph ended up having her first diving lesson in the pool and although she was a bit shakey to start with she said she enjoyed it and is planning to do her open water course along with Di in 2008 so we can all go diving and I am so looking forward to having a few weekends away over the next.As it is so warm we stayed in the pool til it got dark which was around 10ish - it was actually warmer in the pool as apposed to being out of it! We ate, drank and laughed loads eventually moving the table and chairs out of the gazebo to creat a dance floor to dance on and I am now seriously thinking I should have a pool party for my birthday in February - you have no excuses now get them cards in the post!!! Just before mid night we could see the fireworks from Gloster Park (I think thats what its called)and then we counted down the seconds, trashed the yard with party poppers and drank some more. It wasn't much of a wild party but we had a great laugh.New years day I woke up with the hang over from hell as I'm not used to drinking much although having said that I seem to be drinking a little more these days if that makes sense??I've been going on at Ben for months about sproucing up the house a little so we bought paint to paint the bedrooms if only to make them look a little brighter. As ever what was suposed to be a simple job turned into a bloody nightmare and Ben was pissed off to say the least. We spent the first few days arguing like mad with me being at work all day then coming home to help paint. What I didn't know was that Ben had never painted before!!! It was all a bit rushed well it had to be in this 40 degrees heat as the paint was drying as soon as it was on the wall!! Oh well it's done now and beleive me when I say its a million percent better than it was; not sure how the landlady is gonna react to what has now been named the GREEN ROOM!! Oh and we splashed out on a pool cover which is awsome at it not only keeps the pool clean but heats it too; its like swiming in a warm bath!Life is back to normal now; we are both back at work and Ben is off diving as usual.So all in all its been a pretty great xmas and here's hoping 2008 is just as brilliant as last year. Just to let you all know we are coming over for a visit in MAY - looking at around 15/16th and will be staying for 2 to 3 weeks it depends on whether or not we can afford to spend a few days in Dubai. US!!!!You may find it hard to beleive but we landed in Perth 1 year ago today!!!! And what a year 2007 was. I find it hard to beleive that life can get much better than it already has done for us but here's hoping we have an amazing 2008!!!So you're probably all wondering just what we have been up to over the new year. Well its been a tad crazy and I'm so in need of sleep right now.Ben's been off work since 21st Dec while me I've been working none stop in between. I finished about 2pm on NYE and went for coffee with Jan from work to catch up on the xmas gos since she has a whole 2 weeks off as does half the bloody office but not me!! Anyway I finally got home about 3.30pm to find that Ben had sorted the garden out and set everything up for tonight as we are having a few friends round to help us celerate the New Year. There isn't the same kind of night life here as back in sunny Huddersfield - most people just chill out in the yard with a few mates, plenty of beers and the barbie is cranked up to cook a roast. It's been another scortchio day (I'm sure you don't wanna here that - hope your not too cold over in Yorkshire)so by 4pm people are already arriving and jumping in the pool to cool down. The alcohol is soon flowing and the food is smelling very nice indeed. Steph ended up having her first diving lesson in the pool and although she was a bit shakey to start with she said she enjoyed it and is planning to do her open water course along with Di in 2008 so we can all go diving and I am so looking forward to having a few weekends away over the next.As it is so warm we stayed in the pool til it got dark which was around 10ish - it was actually warmer in the pool as apposed to being out of it! We ate, drank and laughed loads eventually moving the table and chairs out of the gazebo to creat a dance floor to dance on and I am now seriously thinking I should have a pool party for my birthday in February - you have no excuses now get them cards in the post!!! Just before mid night we could see the fireworks from Gloster Park (I think thats what its called)and then we counted down the seconds, trashed the yard with party poppers and drank some more. It wasn't much of a wild party but we had a great laugh.New years day I woke up with the hang over from hell as I'm not used to drinking much although having said that I seem to be drinking a little more these days if that makes sense??I've been going on at Ben for months about sproucing up the house a little so we bought paint to paint the bedrooms if only to make them look a little brighter. As ever what was suposed to be a simple job turned into a bloody nightmare and Ben was pissed off to say the least. We spent the first few days arguing like mad with me being at work all day then coming home to help paint. What I didn't know was that Ben had never painted before!!! It was all a bit rushed well it had to be in this 40 degrees heat as the paint was drying as soon as it was on the wall!! Oh well it's done now and beleive me when I say its a million percent better than it was; not sure how the landlady is gonna react to what has now been named the GREEN ROOM!! Oh and we splashed out on a pool cover which is awsome at it not only keeps the pool clean but heats it too; its like swiming in a warm bath!Life is back to normal now; we are both back at work and Ben is off diving as usual.So all in all its been a pretty great xmas and here's hoping 2008 is just as brilliant as last year. Just to let you all know we are coming over for a visit in MAY - looking at around 15/16th and will be staying for 2 to 3 weeks it depends on whether or not we can afford to spend a few days in Dubai. Well what a blooming marvelous Christmas we have just had!I guess we haven't had the usual hectic run up to the main event since we are here on our own. Cards and pressie's were posted to family and friends back in England in November; we bought each other a few bits and have decided to spend the rest on sorting out the house. I know I've said this before but it don't really feel like Christmas cause its so hot not that we are complaining it beats freezing your tits off any day of the week. It's just that we associate Christmas time with the cold, rain and snow if you're lucky (not that it ever snows on Christmas day in Yorkshire). Ben had no interest what so ever in even putting up a Christmas tree!! I'm like 'don't be such a bloody scrooge' and of course we did get one but it's what I would call very minimalist!! Anyway the last few weeks at work have been stressful to say the least so I was defiantly looking forward to having a whole 2 days off with guaranteed sunshine chillin out in and around the pool and boy was it a hot one!Christmas eve was spent with two of our friends Mark and Steph; we cranked up the Barbie, had steak and salad as the sun set over out back yard and before we even knew it, it was getting close to midnight. Christmas day was just Ben and I in our home and we loved every second of it. We had a good ole English breakfast, opened our presents, set the laptop up in the garden and chattered to family over the internet with the webcam. It was a scortchio 42 degrees so obviously we spent most of the time in the pool which I'm sure pissed off those at the other side of the world freezing their tits off!! But we had a laugh. We didn't do the traditional Christmas lunch we had lamb cooked on the Barbie of course (all our meet is cooked on the Barbie now it tastes so much better), Ben had a few beers and I had my WKD's. The day was over way too quick as any day off from work is.Boxing Day was spent snorkeling at the beach and was even hotter in fact it was not only the hottest December day ever recorded in Perth at 44.4 degrees but this year it was the hottest city any where in the world so we have been told. It doesn't normally get this hot until well in to January so it looks like we are in for some super hot weather this summer.Not really much else to tell, have a look at the pics and enjoy. Hope you all had a fantastic Christmas and we are now getting ready for the new years party at ours which should be fun!!To be continued. . . . .
