Wasn't really an adventurous trip since all we did was sit in the sun and soak it up. Coming from 16, 17 degrees in Wellington, it was heaven.
Singapore, Singapore

We forgot to mention that we also walked in the heat all the way to the
Botanicical Gardens. Probably took over 1.5hrs to walk in the muggy heat of 30
something degrees. But it was worth it! It is very different to the B.G
gardens in Wgtn. It is very tropical and even has 3 lakes. One is called Swan
Lake where they have imported 2 swans from Amsterdam!

The Bonsai area was closed for redevelopement which was a shame.

Afterwards we caught the bus back for less than $1NZ each! Opps...if we had
known it was so cheap we would have saved so much time catching it to the B.G in the first place. Doesn't matter, the walk did us a lot of good. Just as we got to the bus stop the skies opened and let loose a heavy tropical downpour!

On our last night we went in hunt of the infamous durian fruit. Looks very
spikey and green, the size of a small watermelon. The guy selected a "good
one" and we sat at the table and proceeded to pick out the fruit.

I recommend that you try it if you get here, but needless to say it was not our taste and
promptly spat it out. David's mum sent us a message saying when we lived in
Singapore years ago, David tried it and spat it out then too. He was relieved
to know his taste buds are still in good working order.

Next stop...Dubai!
I loved it but David says "it was like running around oriental bay in summer", two minutes and he was sweating.

Got to the hotel at about 9pm dumped our bags and went out for a walk....the streets were full of people wandering around, shopping, eating and yabbering on cellphones. Made our way down to famous Raffles Hotel.

We got up this morning at about 9am and went looking for food and expected all the shops to be open.....they didn't, not until 11am, it's really wierd. Amalia thinks it a better system since everyone starts shopiing at lunch timke anyway, and the shops tend to be open until about 9 - 10 pm.

So much to do, just wandering down Orchard road, Gucci, Prada, YSL (just looking of course!!), and all the electronic shops (David says "it's Heaven!!!")

See you all later
Los Angeles, California, United States

Last day of the Holiday!! Boohoo
Our flight isn't until 9:30 so we have plenty of time to go and look at a mall or two and get sorted for leaving.

We made sure this time that we'd be at the airport nice and early so we can get some decent duty free shopping in. Every other airport something has cropped up to stifle our shopping experience. I'd allowed an hour to get there, an hour for security (based on our Vegas experience) and then we had a couple of hours to look at all the shops. No-one told me the terminal was crap and only had 4 poxy shops, and didn;t have anywhere near the security from our Vegas domestic flight. It struck me as really odd. The security only took about 5 minutes so we had 3 hours in this terminal with nothing in it. Oh well. In a few more hours we'd be home.

I hope people have enjoyed reading this as much as we've had going through it. Until next time...........
Los Angeles, California, United States

Today we had a tour booked in LA, the Legendary Los Angeles tour. They took us around Hollywood, to Beverly Hills, then to Santa Monica Beach or Venice beach depending on where you wanted to get off. We chose Venice Beach - the one with the outside gym. An interesting place very lively, and all walks of life are there. There were lots of stalls selling T-shirts, sun glasses (I bought a pair for cycling, cost me $2.99!!), smoking "paraphernalia" and the odd food stall. Our bus driver told only to eat packaged food and drinks so we didn't eat anything.

Then it was back on the bus back to the hotels.
Los Angeles, California, United States

Arrived late the previous day, so checked in, had something to eat at the restaurant "Tiffys" next door. Not a great place so never went back.

This day was to be Universal Studios day. We were picked up at 8 in the morning, and taken into Hollywood.

Bus arrived at the studio at about 10, through the LA traffic. Was expecting worse, but there were still a heap of cars on the roads. We had 8hrs at the Studio.

First thing to do, while the line is small, is the Universal tour. This takes you around all of the lots, and shows you the whole site. Included are some old favourites, the jaws pond, where he jumps out at you, the earthquake, where your world crashes around you and there's flames and water and heaps of noise. Then there were some new ones, the set of Desperate Housewives, war of the worlds...this one impressed me, it look like they'd destroyed a full 747, but it was still smoking, and the engine turbine was still slowly spining it had landed on some residential neighbourhood, on some houses and cars.

We managed to do most of the rides:

-Jurassic park, a water ride, with a really big drop a the end, bigger than disney's splash mountain. Amalia screamed her arse off, especially the big dip at the end!

-Van Helsing, a walk through haunted house, with animated goblins, and the odd actor in costume...who decided to chase Amalia and her new scare buddy (a girl by herself that decided getting scared with us was safer than being all alone), around the lower levels of the house.

David is not saying how SCARY it was...it was horrible and I have never screamed so much in fright in my WHOLE life! Things would brush on your face and leap out at you even if you were expecting something nasty around the corner, you didn't know what it would be! There was an area with monsters that was roped off. What made me scream even more (and cry a bit too!) was that one monstor decided to climb OVER the barrier and come up to me about 5cm from my face. Argggg!!!

-A special effects tour, where they show animated robots, foley editing, blue screen effects. Quite informative, and quite funny, with a heap of audience participation.

-Fear Factor Live, like the TV show, but they cast people from the park. Suckers!

-Backdraft, with lots of explosions and flames, narrated by Ron Howard

-Shrek, a movie theatre that movies, and squirts water, and blows wind, in Ogre Vision, (3D). Actually it was 4-D...which is 3-d + the 4thD is the movement and physical stuff like when the characters sneeze, you feeling the wetness on your face.

-Waterworld, our favoutie, a 20 mintue show based on the movie, with special "Soak Zone" seats. If you sat here you WOULD get wet. The warm up guys would fire big squirt guns into the crowd, each trying to better each other. One twit decided to fire back with a water pistol, he got about 2 litres of water fired straight back at him. Then the show, this was quite a big set, all corregated iron, with water in the middle. Guys on jet skis came roaring in, and they come towards the seats and turn their jet skis around and soak everyone. The finale was....well i wont tell you, but let me just say, everyone (not just the soak zone) get fairly wet from that one. Well worth watching!!!

Finally it was back on the bus back to the hotel.
