Amarillo, Texas, United States

after a nice 12 hour drive, complete with a continental breakfast, subway, and taco bell we've finally made it to the good ol KOA camp ground in amarillo, texas...nick finally got to put his headlamp to good use (highlight of the trip for him)...we've set up the tent (thanks julie and greg!) complete with an air mattress (nick's idea) and we're about 10 yards away from nice clean indoor restrooms ....so it doesnt really feel like camping, luxary five star camping if you will...tomorrow we should be able to slow down the trip a bit, maybe stop n hike or explore some caverns
San Diego, California, United States

san diego was beautiful....75 degrees and sunny all day, every day...my kind of place. thanks to tyler we were able to see most of the city in the two days we were there....did some sight seeing and went to the san diego zoo on friday...which was really cool, tyler took us to a house party on friday night and we ended up meeting about 5 other people that were fellow uva alums...saturday morn we went out to breakfast and then to a bar where uva alums meet and watch the football game on tv....apparently theres some mailing list for uva alums in various cities around the country/world and some guys started one in san diego....nick and i may have to start one in tahoe....also, since im sure many of you are wondering why we have chosen to bypass the grand canyon....we're both royally sick of driving/being in a car and meeting all these new people is making us really anxious to get to tahoe and start meeting friends of our own....and we firgure we wont be too far from the grande canyon this year so we can always take a couple days off and make a trip out there...anywho, we're now in LA livin the hollywood dream....plan on doing some sight seeing tomorrow, maybe hike to the hollywood sign, we shall see

p.s.: my apologies for the millions of pictures of animals that im going to post to this entry...i got a little carried away at the zoo
Tucson, Arizona, United States

After a few lovely days of scenic driving through the mountains and deserts of the south west we ended up last night an hour south of Tucson at Catalina state park. The day started with a cacti tour in Saguaro national park, an 8 mile winding road through thousands of giant cacti. After the tour we drove into the heart of Tucson to have lunch and check out the University of Arizona's campus. By 3 p.m. we were in Catalina state park on a 4 mile hike through the Coronado mountains, a huge relief after being stuck in a car for the past few days. When we finally got back to the camp site we ate dinner, drank a little wine and fell asleep at sunset, sleeping through until sunrise only to be intermittently woken by coyotes in the distance. It was pretty awesome.
Jackson, Tennessee, United States

after a good nights sleep and a hearty breakfast we're finally ready for the open road...hoping to log about 12 hours worth of travel time today...drove through nashville last night, keeping our eyes peeled for dolly parton or the world's biggest guitar....attempted to make it to memphis last night and started calling a bunch of hotels to reserve a room, they were all booked....apparently everyone drives to memphis when a hurricane hits....so we settled for jackson, tn...about an hour east of memphis
Charlottesville, Virginia, United States

200 miles down, thousands to go. Got in to Charlottesville last night around 9 P.M and went strait to Mellow Mushroom to have pizza and a few pitchers with Adam and Curtis. We spent most of the night at Buddhist after dinner and just as we were about to leave Rob shows up in the bar, a complete surprise b/c I had no idea he was coming. It's shaping up to be a solid weekend, can't wait to see everyone tonight.
Our first few legs are short but sure to be fun, driving a total of 10 hours in 4 days to visit UVA, Tech and UT. I don't know what the road has in store for us but we will keep everyone updated as much as possible. Drop in and check us out when you get a chance, we'll load pics and more text soon.
