Cancun, Yucatan Peninsula, Mexico

So it FINALLY stopped raining...and I'm sure I have just jinxed it typing that here. Oh well, what are you going to do, right? You know what's funny? As most of you know, I have lived in Vancouver all of my life and have not owned an umbrella in about 15 years...I move to the beach resort of Cancun and I have to buy one after a week here!! LOL!

Anyway, Paul and I have spent the last week learning not one, not two, but THREE different sales presentations! AAARGH! Right now we are doing our last minute cramming, as we are 'going live' at H10 tomorrow!! The team that will be working the sales rooms are all really nice and are working really well together and helping each other out. There are about 12 reps and 3 managers - as you can see in the pics, things are a bit frantic right now but we'll get there!

H10 is in Playa del Carmen and it is a beautiful hotel, and actually, we got to go to the construction site of the next H10 to open (in Puerto Morelos) and it's going to be even better. The owner suites are RIGHT on the beach...there were 2 sample suites set up for us to see and the one has a jacuzzi right on the patio and you literally step out of it and on to the beach! I have attached some pics so you can see...gonna be really cool!

Anyway, I'd better hit the books and keep cramming....I'll let you know how it goes!

Cheers,
Michelle
Cancun, Mexico

Hey guys,

So this might be the lamest blog EVER!! Despite the fact that I have use of Bert´s computer, using it would require walking up a flight of stairs to his office....and they turn the air conditioning up waaa too high, so....

Cancun´s beaches are great - beautiful white sand- although we don´t really use the beach loungers there unless the pool deck is full by the time we wake up.

My friend Bert hooked us up with a premium room (and gold wristbands that give us access to basically whatever we want...premium al-cool is the biggest perk)our room overlooks the ´sexy pool´ as they call it...as an adult only resort, you can imagine the poolside games that they have here! As for me and JW, we don´t participate- we sit in our loungers reading and hanging out until we are so tired that we need a nap....it´s a tough gig out here for sure.

Met lots of people so far - everyone is really friendly - some TOO friendly...we got the lamest line in the áll inclusive´book on our first day here .... ´can I buy you ladies a drink´? Yeah dood...whatevs...my wristband kicks on your wristband. HA - the velvet rope...

Then, we have a ´creepy thong guy´ who insists on parading his awfulness all day by walking back and forth along the pool deck...this can be a really funny place...ick

JW and I have made great friends with some guys from Guelph - we met on our first day...they are affectionately know as our "3 Cabana Boys" (I checked and they are okay with their titles, despite the obvious intent to exploit). Anyway, they have been most helpful in fetching bevvies, chocolate and feeding the odd grape while we lounge on the beach (..SEEDLESS next time, D!) Just kidding, they are great guys and we have been having a lot of fun hanging out and getting to know them. YEAH - I can still throw a football!!

Paul arrived the other day...our other friend Vanessa who is staying in Playa del Carmen hooked up with us yesterday and came back to cancun with us...friends from WAY back are here with kids (Jen, remember Andre and William?...Andre is married and has two kids!). We all hooked up in Playa del Carmen last night and had dinner and bevvies together...soo much fun! Yesterday we also went to Xcaret which is a huge eco park-zoo-aquarium-water park with Berts Vanessa, her friend Adrianna from Guadalahara, Vancovuer Vanessa, Cuz, me and JW. So cool - we did this snorkle float thingy in underwater caves...really fun... was going to swim with dolphins but it was too cold....no really, it was windy yesterday.

Anyway, weather permitting, we are going on his yacht today...it´s really choppy though so until it calms, I´m going back to my lounge chair.

Adios amigos!
Barcelona, Spain

So Joyce and I had a bit of a rough night....neither of us could fall asleep last night! Both took gravol and at least I was able to fall asleep! she not so lucky...

Woke up and decided to go to Parc Guell...GAUDI day today! Little did we know, the metro station we decided to go to was the RIGHT one....up... up... up... get a bottle of water... up...ahhh, escalators! However, this would have been MUCH longer if we had gotten off at the other metro station...thanks Joyce, good call!

Saw all of the ´must sees´in the park, as well as his home/museum....then walked down....down...down...ugh, pictures here will be gross-we were DRIPPING!

Took the metro to the Sagradia Familia (Gaudi´s Cathedral and ongoing project) ... my dad is an engineer, so my appreciation/fascination may by more that some folk! It gave me goosebumps going there! I knew that this was an ongoing work on behalf of Gaudi´s concept, but I had NO IDEA thAt this was such an ACTIVE construction site!! It´s like the RAV X 10!! This structure gave me chills and goosebumps when I went in...that sounds like a cliche, but soooo not! This structure is a monstrosity!! Dad,you SOOOOO have to see this - pictues that I have taken do not do it justice! As much as I can, I have illustrated the scale of this structure, but...its so huge, you can´t get people in the same picture as any pillars!

Went shopping along the Passieg de Gragia (when we found it...) - closed on Sundays but open today...if yáll can believe it, neither of us bought anything! Joyce may cry...

...siesta...

Walked around the Borne area to find something other than tapas to eat...unsuccessful...made our way to the marina area to find a restaurant serving the black ink squid paella that we were looking for....and,as most of you know,we both have tapeworms... ate there (grilled cuttle fish) mmm ..and proceded to finish the evening off back at the Mexican place below our BnB...mmm, food!

Anyhoo, since it´s my colleague´s fault that I bought and DRANK Don Simon sangria, I should probably sign off now...the keyboard is a bit blurry.... :-) Boomer, this stuff is RANK!

Hopefully we get up at a decent hour...

nyt-nyt!

....live fronm Barcelona, cue the National anthem....what´s the national anthem...?
Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada

****Note, I'm going to work backwards to fill in the rest of the trip...not because I believe that you are all SO interested in what we did, but because my brain is a seive and I want to have some record of the odd bits that happened along the way. Feel free to check back and enjoy, or wait for me to tell you 4 times over :-P ****

So we are back ...all in one piece! No additional luggage required for the return trip, although I'm sure I had the most amusing carry-on baggage - 8 pairs of shoes (6 new and 2 old ones shoved in there)! Anyway despite certain challenges, we rolled with it all, had a great trip and learned a lot along the way.

BRUTAL trip home though...up at 3am (MAYBE 45 mins of sleep) to get to the airport by 4:30...6:30am flight from Madrid to Frankfurt...5+ hours stop over where we tried sleeping, slouched in chairs in a busy airport...8.5 hour flight from Frankfurt to CALGARY...another 2.5 hours there (at least you could by REAL water to drink ie purified by reverse osmosis-HA! ...as opposed to mineral-BLECH!) and another hour and a bit to get back to Vancouver.

I need a vacation!!! Friz/Barks/Geoff....???

You know, the big bonus of travelling is you get to observe and steal (no pun intended) all the best bits of cultures that you visit, apply it to your own life to make it your own - things that we here in North America don't do. For example in Spain, you will never see a local walking down the street drinking a coffee out of a paper cup - if they need a coffee they go in to the coffee bar, sit up on a bar stool and take 4 minutes out of their day to have (and ENJOY) their coffee and probably a cigarette...then off they go, to do whatever it was they were going to do. Why is it that we don't allow ourselves this 4 minutes??

EVERYONE, SIT DOWN AND ENJOY IT...I know I will be from now on!! ;-)

That's it folks - for the last entry...cue the national anthem (Canadian please!).
--michy_meeeeeeeee
Aside from an unfortunate ¨2km¨walk to Nerja´s caves...was actually 3km... in about 32 degree scorching weather... pretty much all we did was sit by the pool, sit on the beach, eat paella (we are not sick of it yet!) drink wine and eat ice cream!! Fabulous time there doing nothing...but BOY DO WE HAVE GREAT TANS!!!

This morning we woke up to a massive thunder and lightning storm.....fine by us, as we left bright and early for Seville...4.5hrs on a bus tho (I know you all feel sorry for us). Accomodations here are nice and central, right near the cathedral...I mean shopping...whatever! Did some damage and are now en route back to our hotel to decide what we want to eat....sadly, only 6 days left of this.

We are pretty close to the tourist info, with this handy FREE internet service here, so I may be able to blog more tomorrow...

bye-bye!
Michy
